E46 iPod w/ DICE - major problems

So I have a 2000 323i, which has the newer (E53) business CD in it - I also have SIRIUS, and the DICE iPod kit.
During iPod use only (not AM/FM, CD, SIRIUS), I have a tremendous alternator whine, and of course, clicking while idling. No whine, obviously, while the engine is off.
The setup is a little different - my BMW Bluetooth kit is connected, and because in my model year the stereo didn't support playing the phone audio through the stereo speakers, I have jumped the appropriate pin the center console and wired in to the appropriate pin in the 17 pin stereo connector. In addition, the speaker underneath the steering column has been rerouted to pins 3/8 on the 10 pin CD changer connection at the stereo so that the phone audio comes through the car speakers. Pin 3 in the 10 pin CD changer connector, prior to the phone hookup, had what seems to be a ground in it, which is currently wrapped and disconnected. I had a feeling this was not the culprit because of the lack of loop during SIRIUS use, but I am now unsure. When I try to jump this disconnected ground to pin three (on top of the phone -), all stereo modes have a hum, engine running or not. In addition, I have tried to disconnect the ground on the cable from the DICE to the SIRIUS and ground it elsewhere in the trunk with no luck. The cable from the SIRIUS to the DICE runs along the left side of the car under the door jambs, and then below the steering column where the DICE is positioned.
I had a USA SPEC unit before the DICE, and the symptoms were the same.
In BMW TIS EDS, there is no reference to any wire at pin 3 for my model year - for the model year that matches the radio, pin 3 in telephone AF -.

Any thoughts?

If you are experiencing the same results between 2 different devices with engine noise, the problem may lie within the wiring. The DICE could be picking up interference from other devices in the vehicle. You can try relocating the wire to see if the noise is diminished or if you cannot find the source of the noise - a ground loop isolator must be used.

Some BMWs are more sensitive to engine noise than others. Here is a link to the version we offer on the website:

Let me know if you have any further questions!
