E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

1 series getting closer

I was speaking with our BMW NA rep yesterday, he said that he expects the 1 series here by next fall (07') debuting as an 08'. We'll see the sedan version first (no 5 door), and there will be a 135i

not sure about other markets. But we will be getting a sedan, BMW NA doesn't think the 5 door would do well here

I think we'll be getting the coupe and cabrio for sure.
There have been many spypics of the cabrio, so cabio for sure.
And since the cabrio is always based on a coupe, we'll get the coupe as well.

Yeah, does anyone have pics of the new sedan/coupe coming out of the 1? Also, is the 2-series the coupe?

No, which makes this rumor pretty suspect. There's no way a sedan which no one has ever seen will be on sale in 12 months.

In fact I've not even heard that BMW had greenlighted a sedan.

That, unfortunately, was my suspicion too.

I've never really been all that taken with hatchbacks. But a 1er sedan might just be the ticket for those of us who lament the continual enlargement of the 3 series.

I would be perfectly happy to own a hatch, except for the gawd awful nose of the current design. As long as they fix the nose, I would take the hatch over the coupe or the sedan any day.

well, the good news is, it's not a rumor. You have to remember, I work for BMW, and this info came straight from the horses mouth. The product manager for N.A.

Well, if it turns out that a 1-series sedan does arrive before 2009, you will almost certainly be the No. 1 hero on the 1-series board.

dbtheo - Well, that is good news. Personally I'm very interested in the 1-Series Cab.
I currently have a 2003 Z4 and spring/summer of 2008 would be a good time to replace the Z4. The 3-Series is too big and I really don't like the hard-top verts.
Do you have any idea of the engine options the 1-Series Cab will come in (e.g. 2.5i, 3.0i, 3.5i )?
BTW, any idea of when/where it will first be introduced (e.g. 2007 NAIAS)?

TIA

You work for BMW, live in Ohio, and drive a 2006 323i? Did you import that or something?

I hope your rumor is true, but call me skeptical.

I have seen spy pictures of a 1-series sedan. We know they're working on it. Maybe they plan to release it simultaneously in the US and in Europe? That'd be a first...

Please post them if you remember where you saw them. I've never seen sedan spy shots, I've seen everything else (2d, 3d, conv etc).

No spy shots, but there's this;

http://www.motorauthority.com/cars/b...stined-for-us/
Quote:
BMW's new CEO, Norbert Reithofer, has confirmed that the small 1-series will be sold in the US but not in its current form. Unlike Europe, where premium hot-hatches are particularly popular, the US version will likely follow its larger 3-series sibling with the introduction of three distinctive shapes including a sedan, coupe and wagon.

I hope that when the new 135i Comes out they would have tweaked the problem that they have with the car skipping on uneven pavements and bumps along regular roads and highways. The worst is on highways when one is going on a on or off-ramp where there are sections or sectors. This is when the 1 series tends to hop or skip. My current E46 330i does not do this. The E46 330i seems more stable on the highway over the E87130i but in the city the 130i is more nimble and tossable.
