erroneous empty tank

Hi all,

Anyone ever get an alert from their rides that says you have an empty tank even though you just filled it up? I recently got my ride back from the dealer for some other issues and they said they updated the SW. Now every now and again the car reports it's on an empty tank. even though it's full

Bro....! I just had the same exact thing happen to me last week! Took it in and the dealer fixed it. I t was a "faulty sending unit".

Did they upgrade the SW again ? Were you required to leave the vehicle over night?

I did leave the car and got a loaner. As far as the specifics of the fix... unclear?

I had the same problem too! All fixed now some stupid sensor or something

I have seen the problem twice in 9 months. Engine restart cleared the problem both times. MBZ has a similar problem with their 2000 ML series sensors that occurs every time you fill the tank before it is more than 2/3 empty. However a restart does not clear the error. The indicator starts at "empty" and slowly moves toward "full" as you drive. Benz tells me there is no fix available. I believe the problem is an inherent design flaw with the German technology. It will be interesting to see if the problem returns for those who have had their BMW tank level sensors replaced.
