Mein Auto: 2006 750li
06 750li rough start

Question,

I have a 2006 750li with 1000 miles. Just got the car and couldn't be happier.

When the car starts after sitting for a while, the engine kind of stumbles a bit for the first 5 or so seconds. The dealer says that this is inherent to the 7 and not to worry. This this normal? Seems a bit strange, but this is my first 7.

Thanks,

S

My mother owns a 750li and has the same thing happen in the mornings. Everything else works the same after it...

Don't Worry

This is a normal V8 experience.

Many things are happening when you start up the 7er in the morning. I am sure you only experience this when the car has been sitting for 7+ hours, correct?

-Diagnostics (Making sure all system are working as they should).
-Sensors (Being queried to support the above statement).
-4.8 litre is tuned to run high (Hard) in the first 2-5 minutes.
-Make sure you Climate Control is off when turning on the engine.
- Why? If the air system is active, the car has to put energy into that
process.

Enjoy your new ride.

I also have the exact same experience.

I do have to take issue with the claim that it is a V8 experience. As a person who also has 4 other V8 cars sitting in the garage, I can assure you this phenomenon is unique to BMW.

I have had the dealer check mine and got the same stories (including the pollution system starting up and some type of pump engaging).

Don't get me wrong - I absolutely LOVE my 750li and rave about it to family and friends. In fact, with the miles I put on, I'll probably be buying another one in about a year.

I just wish my Dream Car didn't sound like a jalopy when I start it up in the morning

I did hear that a software upgrade can help with the rough initial idle. There's some optimization that has been tweaked out.....You may want to consider having the dealer upgrade your system........Couldn't hurt.

I have that experience with my 650, but never with the 745.

We have the same problem with our 2001 525i - rough morning starts. We consulted our dealer, and it was simply poor gas quality affecting the injectors. We only use top teer gas (Chevron). We have been using Redline SI-1 Complete Fuel System Cleaner and the problem goes away completely. You can use this as a way to diagnose further - or it may be your solution. The fuel quality is simply not good enough for our precision injectors.

We use half a bottle once every two months or as needed...sometimes less. It is really an amazing product. I found it at the local CarQuest.

Good comment. This condition did/does not exist in the lower revv 4.4 but more so in the 4.8 that comes standard with the 5.0litre engines.

The 4.8 (5litre) takes in (needs) much more air to its internals which I suspect the engine is so rough and loud in the morning (Typically).

Gas quality may be the culprit too but like another poster mentioned, there is a software update to tune down the start-up agressiveness that you maybe experiencing.

Good luck
