Whoa...I put 7 quarts (about 6.6 liters) in my 01 330 and it's full to the brim according to the dipstick. It lasts all the way between oil changes also (about every 5000mi). Don't know why you're hearing 7-7.5 liters. Anyone know?

7 quarts??? My '00 Wrangler 4.0L only took 5 quarts. Does the E46 have a huge oil pan?

Yes.... BMWs have always had a somewhat larger than "normal" oil supply....

Hmm, well maybe I'm only filling it to 80-90% capacity and you're filling it to the brim. Weird. Either way though, my dipstick says full, the oil light doesn't come on, and my car runs great (especially since I just replaced the bad camshaft position sensor...man what a difference!). Don't know.

I was referring to this post-stating that a 4.0l car uses 5 quarts.
Mine is a 2.2l and uses more oil than that.

Well, I know. Its because I OVERFILLED!

7 liters and the dipstick says it is one milimeter above the top line!!

How do I remove that now?

Remove the dipstick dip a hose all the way in and suck it just like it is a milkshake

There are two ways, you either get under the car and loosen the drain plug and let some oil out.
Or use an extractor. Check the link.

I know it is not good to overfill I just don't know if you should take an action. See what others say.

I think 1mm over the top "line" (assuming this is referring to the top of the two cutouts) is really not a big deal. I highly doubt that's going to cause any damage.

Well, definitely I wont go under the car, I dont fit under there.(or if I eventually fit, I will be stuck imagine the neighbours face when I call for help )

My mechanic is just down the road, and he has an extractor. Most gas stations ave as well.

Problem is, I am sure I put 7 liters in there(with the filter oil as well)

People say it is 6.6 liters max.
So I put @ 0.5 liter more.

So when the car is hot, the dipstick is at max.
When it cools down, it goes abit over the max.

The oil should be checked 5 minutes after shutting off the engine (assuming it is up to operating temperature), according to my E46 owner's manual. You will probably find it is about right.

Anyways, I am switching to MOBIL 1 0W40 after only 300km with the Castrol SLX 0W30.

Any opinions on this?

Guys, have a look at my thread regarding oil here http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=177704 and let me know of what you think.

I am very angry at the moment.
