BMW i-Bus - Steering Wheel Controls

I'm kicking around the idea of making some sort of adapter to permit me to use the steering wheel controls for an aftermarket carkit.

From what I've learned so far, the steering wheel controls are part of a bus that broadcasts a data packet when the button is pressed and one when it's released.

Anyone have some starting points, or know of someone who's started this project before.

Would be nice to partially integrate my cellphone into the exising car without having to spend the extra $200 that BMW wants for their bluetooth kit.

Thanks!

You can talk to Mr Paddle Shift (aka VinceTopasBlau3), our resident expert in BMW steering wheel wiring harnesses.

A couple of companies make an adapter that will interface the iBus with IR signals.
