2006 BMW 750i Modification:Need Opinions
Hello everyone,
I modified my 2006 BMW 750i. Would like to get your feedback. Im thinking about going back to stock tail lights and adding the "750i" emblem back on. I had the grill and chrome molding painted black. Well actually its smoked like the tail lights, which looks black, but in direct sunlight it has a gun metal look. I also lowered the car with the eibach pro kit. It came down 1.20". Which ocassionaly it rubs (would love to hear any advice to minimize that). Also had had ACS type iv 21" rims added. Thanks |

Yes, go back to stock tail lights and re adding the 750i emblem, it would look a lot better. Other than that, I like it.

thanks guys. I think I will be going back to stock tail lights and the 750i emblem. I would assume that the tail light smoke cannot come off and I would have to buy new tail lights. Any ideas on how I can minmize the scrapping when I drive on uneven road? Thanks for the replies.

Im not sure. Can you explain what that is? Not really a car expert. Does that change the body structure?

Yes, I think you should go back to the stock tail lights, emblems, grill and moldings. Imo, all black makes it harder to see the shape and design of the body.

the black grill and moldings around the door im pleased with, but the tail lights and 750 emblem takes away from the look of the car, i think. the 750i do come in the sport package which there is no chrome around the windows. The tail lights though....I dont like.

Interesting...
You have seem to individualize your 7er so it is distinct but you have also managed to take away the true identity of what we all know and love; It's call the BMW Flagship 7 Series.
I like your Black 7er with your ACS rims. The smoked lights and black grill you might want to go back to stock.

I too have blacked out tail lights yours seem much darker than mine though.
I think back to stock grill, and then wheels maybe change? refinished or something, to maybe all black or satin finish? your car is just lowered too much then for those size wheels. about a 1/4" or so too much. I really don't recommend rolling fenders on a 7 series. I do like the look of the emblem on any e65/e66. |

I personally like it....The taillights look great IMO. I would put the 750i embelm back on though.

Thanks for advice klew. What negative issues can happen by rolling the fenders? Also I bought the eibach pro-kit that was made for the 7 series. Have any suggestions. I like the look on your tail lights (how many coats were on them). ALso any way I could lighten mines, or do I need to get new tail lights.

the only negative is that it could look like crap. if done professionally then you may get away with that OEM look still, if not it'll look nasty. and since the 7 is moreso a unibody type car it will be real expensive to try and fix it if you don't like it.
as for the eibach kit either take it out, or tell the people you bought it from that it rubs, and hopefully they can take care of that. rubbing also leads to excessive tire wear, and those tires are nothing short of $2K, I would guess. as for the tail lights I don't know how many coats are on them. when I bought the car, I asked them to duplicate the look on another 7 series that was there and I pcked it up and that's what it looked like and I was happy. I don't know if you would need new tail lights, check with a custom shop and see what they can do. |

To minimize rubbing, you would either need to roll your fenders, cut off the lining under the fender, or get smaller tires. Most wheel shops have a fender roller that they can use to roll most fenders. The Eibach Pro-Kits gives you only a 1.2" drop. Most people do not rub with those especially on 21's. I think either your wheel setup is wrong or your tires are too fat. The taillights are a bit too much so I would change that and go back to OEM. The front grill is OK, I would get a front lip or new front bumper to match the grill a little more. Other than that, its clean...

Way too dark for my tastes. You need something on the car for contrast, front and back. Good idea going back to the tail lights. I think you need something shiny on the front end and maybe what I'm missing is just the normal grill.

I think a christmas wreath would do nicely. Kidding!! Seriously the car looks sinister right now....I like it. What did you do to get your paint look like wet glass (looks great).

Thanks for the advice everyone. The car will be modified. Putting OEM tail lights back. Suspension is being re-calibrated (If it does not work/will go with ACS kit). For know Iam sticking with the grill, I like it. But I have another OEM grill that I can replace if I choose too. Also ordered another 750i emblem that will be going back as well. Will post pics once I get those pieces added back.
The wet paint look is from Zaino. Zaino.com. You cant buy this stuff from any store only online. The pros use, I use it and its amazing. I havent washed my car in 3 weeks and it still looks good. I use it every time I wash my car. 3 coats will give you 6 months of protection. Its not a wax either. Hope that helps. |

Im not sure about the emblem, because I had the mods done at a custom auto shop. But from what I know its adhesive not a clip. Hope that helps. Taking the car back in today to have the issues resloved. I will post some pics is a few days.

got the stock tail lights back on and emblem. I will post pictures here soon. I cant get the shop to do a proper alignment. The car still tugs a little to the right. Anyone know if the dealer can do an alignment? Also does anyone know how to take care of small chips to match the black paint? Does the dealer sell a kit?
