April 5th Delivery at Welt
Just got back from our ED trip on Sunday. What an awesome experience. I have been slow at posting as this is a new experience for me. My 9 year old son and I stayed with a friend in a small village called Markt Schwaben about 20 minutes outside of Munich.
S-Bahn into the Welt at 8am, checked in at the private lounge area was a breeze. My son loved the lounge as he got to munch on whatever he wanted. Our delivery was at 9:30am and the car just looked awesome on the turn table with lights shining on it. My son actually got to be the one to turn the lights and the turn table on for me. Factory tour across the street was an informative 2 hour long, seeing the 3 series being built. I little warm and long for a 9 year old but he soldered on. Loved the whole experience very much. Thinking about what to get next in 3 years time. We left Munich on Sunday 7th, with about 2 inches of snow on our brand new car but didn't sweat too much as we were going to drive north with sunny forecast. Drove to a little village called Lauf near the border of France via Holzmaden (ulzwelt museum of prehistoric fossils), Baden Baden, through the winding roads of the black forest (Hwy 500) to the wine country of Sasbachwalden and then to Lauf. 4 hours ish of driving for the day. Next day we went from Lauf through Strasbourg and onto Paris. It was tough to keep from driving the car under 100 mph through Germany and on into France. During our drive in France, I did see that the speed limit was down from unlimited Autobahn, to 130 km/h but could not help myself much. Tolls in France amounted to about 40 euros all together, which was a little lower than I had expected. At the last toll booth though, there was a nice police officer waiting and blocking my way once I paid our last toll. Apparently there was a little more expense i need to pay. He pulled me over for speeding in France using the new average speed trap rather than the radar instant on system. He proceeded to tell me that French speed limit was only 130 km/hr and we were averaging 158.6 km/hr. As a foreigner, we must pay a fine of.........45 Euros... What??? Containing my smile... He asked me to step into his van to sign and receive the receipt for the payment and says "I knows that the speed limit of 130 km/hr is not very high, specially for your car", "Very nice car" wink.. " The republic of France thanks you for the visit". ha ha ha.. That was kinda awesome. Spent the next day finding parking in Paris was such a pain, we dropped our car off at CDG airport right away and now impatiently waiting for our car to arrive in California. It should be at the end of June...:=( |

ED was already a great saving. Plenty of room inside if you have a family. What ever you decide on, I highly recommend picking up your car there.

E92 M3 Coupe ED, 9 countries, much bier sampling
My wife and I recently returned from ED of our new 2012 E92 M3 Coupe - the last of the V8 M3's. We toured Europe for 2 weeks, riding in style, and she wrote a fairly extensive blog of our experiences here --> http://ingagreg.wordpress.com/
First introduction to my new car @ The Welt. Gotta love the rear of the M3 with those EU plates. 140mph on the Autobahn was awesome, and easily possible in only 300hp mode ![]() Last edited by mrggbrown; 08-01-2012 at 04:57 PM. Reason: Bad picture links |

A trip report for the truly anal: http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Ger...og-691052.html
I tend to overwrite and document a bit too much, but it's generally for my own enjoyment. In a few years when I'm old and decripit, I can sit back and relive virtually every minute of each trip I've taken. If you can make it past the first page of BMW newbie ravings, click on the "Next entry" button at the bottom of my writing. And if you get tired of reading about each and every detail, there are lot of pictures available by clicking the buttons at the page bottom. I also included a few unedited videos that are available at the very beginning of certain pages. Like I said, this was all very new to me and I am still fondly recalling those glorious five days six months later. One of the best trips I've ever taken.

Dumb Question about ED to California
ok I've been looking for a post answering this question but I couldn't find anything.
I am wondering if there are any additional taxes or extra fees for getting a car delivered back to California or when going to register at the DMV? or do you just pay for the taxes of your vehicle? I've been told emissions laws are really tough in California I am looking to purchase a 435 after graduating next summer and I have been obsessed with the european delivery program. It will be my first bmw lol but I drove a lot of bimmers through work and have a pretty good about this new 4 series |

Your car will be US model California certified. There are no additional taxes or extra fees, just the CA state tax.

328i Msport
we arrived in Munich airport at 8:30 A.M. Wednesday for Thursday A.M. ED.
This also turns out to be the day that Octoberfest was free admission. Octoberfest in Munich is amazing, in a public park with multiple beer halls ( breweries sponsor their own hall) twice the size of a football stadium and packed shoulder to shoulder with happy singing eating and drinking Germans in traditional dress- leiderhosen for guys and dridnl ( think of a St. Pauli girl label) for the girls. They serve the beer in 1 liter size mugs! the next day was pickup day, and everyone at the welt was falling over themselves to make the experience an informative and happy one. After a thorough orientation by the bmw rep we were led down an elevated walkway and midway were directed to look belo where our car was presented to us on a rotating platform... it literally left us breathless! We love our 2000 E46, but the technology in this new car is awesome. The museum at the Welt was fabulous but we went through it fairly quickly as after driving it off the floor to the valet outside, we were anxious to get behind the wheel a put some Kilometers on the odometer. went to Suttgart for the afternoon and awill continue on to Luxembur in the morning. here's a pic |
