@ Stephen and Melanie (if you read this forum), I got the note you left on my car. I think I saw you driving up with your tourist plate and I thought there was a chance you would park next to me, both of us with new white ED BMWs. I think we were also standing in line next to each other waiting to get into the castle. Sorry, we never formally met.
5. The obligatory visit to Hofbrauhaus.
6. Back in the good ol’ US of A.

Last tip. Bring an unlocked cell phone. I saw at least 2 Capi Photo Electronics stores at the airport which will sell you a 30euro SIMM card (approximately 7.5c for calls to US).

Final tally: 1016 miles. $460 gas.

SC1 - looks like you had a great trip with some pretty good weather! Hopefully you got to actually drive on the Ring! Nice car and glad they are still delivering with the 18 gunmetals!

Here is my re-delivery information for those of you in Canada, specifically Toronto. Picked up my car from Endras BMW tonight - in perfect condition and complete with my European plates (I did not specifically request Harms to save them)!

Drop-off: May 26th
On Boat: June 4th
In Canada: June 16th
Cleared Customs: June 23rd
Re-delivery: July 13th (possibly available one day earlier)

Total days from drop-off to re-delivery: 48

I'm considering ED program for my next BMW. (currently driving 2006 330xi). How do you get your best pricing? Any advise would be welcome.

You may want to reconsider your dealership of choice, since new owners took over I believe over 40 people have been let go, most of the factory trained mechanics, senior sales staff, all of the managers except for kids that have replaced them. Knowledge base is gone. Heaven help you if you need major work. I would choose any other of the 39 dealerships in Canada first. Just an FYI.

First off: Sorry for the Epic Fail on the 12hr rule - I am woefully inadequate on overseas preparation. (Yep - forgot the camera to PC cable)

We just returned from picking up our AW '11 E92 ZCP. 15 days of bliss!!! Christened the M over the Stelvio pass, then toured northern Italy: Venice, Bologna, and Pisa.

Then it was on to Monaco, back to Switzerland on the Bodensea, King Ludwig's Castles,and finishing back in Munich at the Welt for the BMW museum (FYI: closed Mondays!!!!)

This was the trip of a lifetime. Many thanks to the ED forum and ED wiki here on Bimmmerfest as it was instrumental in making the trip stress-free and relaxing.

We can't wait for the next one!!

Apologies for the late post... I would say that I forgot the camera cable at home, but that would be kinda like the dog ate the homework story.

Here are a few pictures of the delivery itself - pick up on Aug 23, 2010. Arrived in Munich that very morning... not a good idea. Showered at the airport and headed for the mountains immediately.

8 days - 1784 miles (well, 3 of those were spend at Spa catching the F1, so not much driving on those days).

Forgetting cables is not a legimate excuse, take out the memory card and stick it in the laptop...

Sure, I would do, except my Thinkpad is not very memory card friendly...

Anyway, a slip on my part.

I had a bag full of cables and gadgets... 2 iPhones, an iPad, an iPod, a laptop... an unlocked Nokia, voltage converters, 2 cameras, lots of memory cards... everything except for that darn cable.

Ja, but did you ask the concierge at your hotel for a cable?

P.S. my thinkpad (an X301) doesn't have card slots either -but it weighs only 1 kg)

Sorry, my humor did not come across very well in my post, I was giving you a hard time but it sounded harsh, I wont even get into the memory card issues I had with my video camera and my 15yo son was not very much help LOL.

Dogs and homework aside, it IS a uniquely frustrating experience to be without something you tell yourself "DO NOT FORGET!!" and Best Buy is not there to save you.

@jatbeni: How was the race @ Spa? Amazing, I'm sure, based upon the telecast. Any photos?

Ah, you got the ultralight.

FYI, with the 6-cell battery and the 3-cell ultrabay add-in, it can go quite a while also. The X301 doesn't use that much power, esp. thanks to the SSD.

@JSpira - I was staying at some B&B's in Austria... no concierge, Sir!

Anyway, moving past this -

@Darkduke - the race was great. The track is amazing... you don't get quite the sense of the elevation change when you are watching this on TV. We did the track walkabout on Friday during practice, and it is a nice 5-7 Km hike. The weather was quite soggy - but what do you expect from Spa!! I had some rain gear on me, but not my waterproof hiking boots... and walking around with Soggy feet all day was quite a bummer. Now, I have been laid low with a bad cold - think it got me somewhere on Spa (Sunday was in the 50's - very cold) or Amsterdam (again 50's). Pictures and more on that experience coming soon...

Sounds like you had a great time......where are the race pics ? Are you happy with your new ride ?

Irv... Thanks a bunch. Its a sweet ride... I am missing das Auto already. And it will be a while before I get my hands on it again.

Day 7 of the ED of my Bride’s new Z4 3.0si. Her car so her choices of Mojave paint job with white Napa Leather interior. Which I must admit looks a lot better than I thought it would. The whole experience at Welt was fantastic from the time we walked in the building till we drove away - definitely a class operation. After the night in Munich we drove to Prague for 2 nights, then Budapest for 2 nights, Vienna 1 night and we just completed our second day in Garmish. Up until we got here most of driving has been on the Autobahn and city driving. Yesterday and today we had the fantastic experience of driving in the Alps. I will attempt to attach the prerequisite photo taken near Neuschwanstein Castle. We tried after the first day but unsuccessful. Without the GPS, trip would have been a lot tougher. Somewhat disappointed the Maps were a 2008 test version and missed a few of the newer roads. We will be going to Zurich & Geneva, Switzerland and Dijon France before returning to Munich to drop off the car. All in all a great experience
