Let's say a year from now the airbag check lamp will go off and there will be some sort of mallfunction in the airbag. Will dealer do the check free or will they try to charge me for it. Also, since dealers get reimbursed for warranty service, would they care at all ?

It highly depends on your dealer. Technically, if you do not have your steering wheel and airbag installed by the dealer then the warranty on that particular item no longer apply. HOWEVER, most dealerships that I've been to are willing to bend the rules a little to develope a good working relationship.
Just keep in mind that if you do DIY the steering wheel, there's a slim chance that if said problem does occur, the dealership have every right to deny your warranty claim. :dunno:
However if said dealership is willing to screw you like that, I personally would NEVER go to a shop like that to begin with. It's about working relationships, not rules.
