Car and Driver Tests Luxury Sedans

Just read January's C&D and the results are in for the luxury sedans.

1st Place: Mercedes S550 SCORE 216

2nd Place: Audi A8L Quattro SCORE 215

3rd Place: BMW 750Li SCORE 200

4th Place: Jaguar Super V-8 SCORE 198
(love the name)

5th Place: Lexus LS460L SCORE 193

How did the Jag did better the Lexus? Never driven one but there must be something to the new Jags.

BMW 750li pretty much dominated the tests performance figures. The article states some thing to the effect that it is indeed a performance sedan of the group. It is for people who like to drive rather then being driven.

The BMW 750li nearly matched more powerfull S550 in performance. Despite the fact that it is down on power compared to the S550's 382hp/390 Ib-ft of torque and lacks an extra gear that Benz has. As for the LS460 the poor thing despite having 380hp and 8 speed gear box was slowest and would just see BMW's taillights all the way. Not to mention it sucks in braking and handling as well as steering feel. I like the light weight chassis of Jag but for having 400hp it also sees the BMW's and MB's taillights


Here are the performance figures from the test. The BMW 750li is an impressive performance machine of the group with solid driving dynamics.
