new E90 M3 4 door sedan photos

Same chassis, same engine, same suspension, same performance. If somebody wants 4 doors, for whatever reason, why does it matter to you? Oh, by the way, I take it back about being the same chassis... 4 door is actually a stiffer chassis, therefore, better handling. Yah, what a joke...getting better handling in a sports car.

the torque of the v10 would help hawl 3 passengers....I say leave the 3 series alone...if you want a passenger car..***** the M5...

but...at the same time...if it's what people want...good on BMW for coming through for you guys...

Since when is the M3 a sports car? A Z4 is a sports car; the M3 is sports sedan. Its charm is that it can be do a reasonable imitation of a normal car or a race car. Almost all M3's spend a large percentage of their time doing mundane tasks, so why not make it do that part of its life better? Last, it makes the car more stealthy for fun on the street, if that's your thing.

EDIT: and of course, everyone forgets the E36 M3/4. I thought the 4-door looked better than the 2-door for that model. The reason for no e46 M3 4-door was always stated that the rear fenders would not adapt to a 4-door platform, not a lack of demand.

I remember that car. VIVIDLY. It's one of my great regrets that I never got to own a new one, and that car was one of the main reasons I queued up to get a 330i ZHP when they became available. FWIW, I've always thought the 4 door M models were far sexier than the coupe models, with the exception of the M1.

That was true for the E46, but the E92 is actually stiffer than the E90.

PS: Just the E92 would be fine, I don't really want to know the data for the E93, since it's a 2-tons monster and it doesn't deserve to be compared to any other 3 series, neither past nor present. But who cares about the weight these days anyway...

expect an M5 sedan and wagon

expect an M3 in a vert, coupe, sedan, and possibly wagon.

Less than 1% of M3's see a track. They are built for the consumer with extra cash.

The E36 4 door M out sold the coupe 3 to 1. Keyword: Sleeper. Sedans: all the power and handling of an M coupe without the bling and much more utility. Keep your driveway jewelry coupee.

Besides, Lexus is doing their own M-equivalent version of IS (a sedan).

If it's just a slushbox and a big motor, it's more like an AMG competitor. Aside from the cursed E60 M5 with either a goofy SMG or a handicapped manual, M cars have gears you can row and are actually fun to drive, unlike any Mercedes or Lexus.

I'd like to see a four door E90 M3, what can it hurt? Of course I'd like to also see a return to a sports car (ie E30 M3) and not a GT, but it looks like that's what we're getting, whether it has two doors or four.

I would not discount the modern ZF steptronics. They are a formidable opponent to manuals and SMG.

However, I do agree, the manual is the most fun with an M car. But also, the M coupe is the last of the really fun cars BMW is building. I would opt for an M coupe before considering a M3, which is just a 335 in sheeps clothing and will only offering neglible performance gains.

I'm all for the M3 sedan, but this statement is simply not true. IIRC the sedan outsold the coupe by a little bit (in the US). Also IIRC the sedan was a poor seller in other markets.

The other thing about the sedan outselling the coupe in the US. While it is true it sold the coupe, it was a FAR less profitable sale than the coupe. The only reason it outsold the coupe was because the lease prices were HEAVILY subsidized by BMW NA.

hmmm.... first picture has e90 taillights.... he rest have e92 lights....

while I agree with you all about the 4 door being good for consumer demand, I just dont think an m3 looks right with 4 doors... even the e36, two of my friends have e36 coupe m3's and from the pictures I like the 2 door alot more... as stated before if you want 4 doors go with an m5 the m3 does not look right with 4 doors...

I agree, I think BMW is making their M cars more generic looking to their other cars

Don't have the hard numbers Alex...this was relayed to me by one of the product specialists at a BMW training event.

New M3 2007 will be available in all options.
Coupe, sedan, touring and cabrio. I can't wait to see the touring version!

I think BMW is right on the mark. Few M's see a track. It is a car for those with extra cash.

I see the M3 as a 3 series with a sport package. A real sport package that includes more than seats and bigger wheels.

BMW is learning that they can sell more cars if they simply add a couple doors. With the AMG and the Lexus IS-F they have no choice if they want to compete.
