Police say driver from Bronx clocked at 130 on Route 17

Monticello - The ticket that Trooper Joseph Ehrets wrote on Route 17 yesterday may send state police on a hunt through their record books for fastest speed, individual ticket, Route 17.
Ehrets’ radar recorded Neftali Marzan of the Bronx driving 130 mph in the highway’s eastbound lanes yesterday. The trooper said he stopped Marzan at about 2 p.m. near Exit 104.
Marzan was driving a 2002 BMW M3.
The sporty two-door boasts a 333-horsepower engine, according to specs listed on the automaker’s Web site.
Marzan was charged with two traffic infractions: speeding and having excessively tinted windows. He was arraigned before Thompson town Justice Martin Miller and released on his own recognizance, pending an appearance in Town Court on Jan. 4.
Ehrets, a trooper for four years, said it was the fastest speed he’s ever clocked. In 1988, Ray Layton of Middletown set a state record for fastest aerial observed speed when he pleaded guilty to driving 123 mph in a 55-mph zone on Interstate 84, in the Town of Wawayanda.
Marzan could get a maximum fine of $400 and up to 30 days in jail if he’s convicted of driving more than 30 mph over the limit, according to state Vehicle and Traffic Law.


Mr. Marzan, if you need to do 130 (and it's perfectly understandable), stick to the Thruway.

Beter yet, stay off the highway and rent some track time!
