What is this light on my Dashboard?

Hey,

As i was driving, this light came on my car. (See Image Attachment). It is the yellow light above the red air bag light, which i am worried about.

The links is: http://www.bimmerwerkz.com/forum/att...-dashboard.jpg
I have a 318iSE v, 1999. (E46).

Was also hoping, if someone could send me the link / image or document, which shows what all icons on the dashboard represent?

Thanks in advance,.

Nice photo....I feel like I`m drunk.... :-)

That light means your brake pads have worn to the point that the sensor was tripped.... have them checked ASAP. (Oh yeah, an owner`s manual will answer many of your questions)

Regards,
Bob

if your not going to the dealer for the brake job make sure you replace the brake pad sensor.if not the light will stay on.

What others have already pointed out, it's warning light stating your brake pad is worn well within it's limits. It's a safe bet that your pad needs changing, however, just to be sure check both of your brake pad sensors wire for any signs of frayed or cut from possible tire rub (one sensor wire in front left, and the other one situated on the right rear)

My light came on last week as well and come to find out it was just my sensor wire that was badly frayed result of tire rub. There's a humor side to this story which I have posted called "lesson learned" on brake pads.

My point is, check the obvious items first such as brake pad thickness and sensor wires before tearing into (If you're going to DIY) or take it to the dealer.

If it's only a sensor wire that needs changing it's very easy DIY and you can buy one at about $18-20 dollars for one sensor wire.

Keep expecting my brake wear Light to come on as well. Words of wisdom when at the dealer and they say your brakes are close to hitting the sensor take that with a grain of salt.. Replaced a set of pads the first time they informed me I had less than 1,000 miles figured it was here may as well save me a trip the next month. Last time I had my oil changed they said the same thing diffrent set of coarse. Figured I would wait till the light came on this time since I needed tires soon. Been over 3,000 and still no light To give them the benefit of doubt I do alot of highway driving so that will effect the wear. When the light comes on you have about 250 to 500 miles left at least that is what I was told by the dealer if I am wrong let me know.. Figure the light should come on soon if not may just change them at my next oil change in 3,000 miles. There is no problem with the light not coming on when you actually need brakes is there Read on some posts some have lasted upwards of 70,000 I am just at 50,000. Had this set changed around 25,000 miles or so when the light came on, they are the front set they must wear faster... That or the sensor was bad and they decided to give me a new set of brakes since I would not know any diffrence (LOL)...

This is your DSC (or is it ASC, no sure about the 2000's) warning light, either you are pressing the DSC/ASC button every time you drive, or you have a problem in the system. Most likely the latter. Have it checked as soon as possible by a mechanic.

Does the brake pad warning lights standard for all E46 models. I have it on my dashboard but I would think my car is not equiped with the sensors. I was more like thinking that this is an option that you can add or a feature that comes standard with higher models. Mine is '02 325.

Standard. My 1988 325is had the same light and the same sensors even.

brakepad light

Don't feel stupid, I just bought a used 330cic and no manual was included. I searched for 20 minutes to find the answer for my same question. If you can buy a bimmer I'm sure you're competent enough to check your owners manual first before going to the trouble of posting your question and uploading an image!

First check that the wires underneath your seats haven't come unplugged (this happened to me) - do your power seats still work? Anything else you'll probably have inspected by a mechanic (could be just your seatbelts malfunctioning or actually your airbag system).

Yes, it's probably one of the seat sensors. Unfortunately you'll need a Peake SRS light reset tool to get the light to shut off even after the problem is fixed. Best to find an independent mechanic to read the SRS code and figure out what made it come on.

My airbag light turned off shortly after I reconnected the wires on my passenger side seat.

Help....I own a BMW 330i and this morning I noticed a red lamp light symbol on. It is on the picture of the car to warn you when you have a door open or the tailgate open; however, no doors are open nor the trunk but a red lamp is on. I hope I explained this well...what does this mean?

You are responding to a 3 year old thread. Besides you have to be a little more specific about what warning light is on. Scroll up in this old thread and you'll see a variety of diagrams. Pick one and continue.

yellow circle with exclamation mark

its your DSC, dynamic stability control. if you did not manually disengaged it. you have a problem with your traction control. you need to get it check by a good mechanic that deals with BMW cars, you will not get a OBDc code it needs a special code reader. most likely you have a problem with your steering sensor if not your speed sensor which you have on 1 each wheel. Steering sensor needs to be calibrated also upon replacement. Costly repair!
