If you get one you may or may not need it done. The roof was already finished for install straight away (and TCK didn't mention any need for further treatment etc before fitting).

However, when I inspected mine, there were light scratches in the resin/clear-coat that was already on there. So I asked a friend of mine who runs a bodyshop to add another clear-coat layer. Not only will this help protect the carbon from UV damage (as there is a UV inhibiter in the clear, and carbon can discolour over time from sun exposure), but it also meant they could safely flatten the new coat back until it looked like glass Which it sure does now!

Have you noticed better or worse sound insulation now that you changed the roof to CF? Also have you gone to a high preassure Car Wash and noticed if the roof leaks? Not doubting your workmanship just curious how close in quality to the OEM roof this is.
Thanx in advance

I dunno how else it would leak unless the seal was bad. There aren't going to be any holes in the roof itself!!!

I removed my visor airbag decals. Contrary to what was posted in another bimmerfest thread, I did NOT use the blow dryer and spatula method. On the advice of my doctor (the master Tyrone) I tryied Goof Off. This stuff is the BOMB! It quickly disolved the binding agent of the sticker and then it simply peeled/fell of the visors. Best of all Good Off, being a liquid, gets into the cracks in the vinyl visor and wipes out the residue the sticker leaves behind. So far I've removed the stickers from my M5 (leather), Z4 MC (vinyl) and our 540iT (fabric) visors. I tried the heat/spatula/blade method on my M5's passenger-side visor and after 30 minutes of heating and scraping I was left with less than ideal results. I tried Goof Off on the driver's side visor and was done in less than 5 minutes with perfectly clean leather. I should mention that after Goof Off I moisturized the visors with their repsective treatment products. For leather I use Lexol Leather Conditioner, for vinyl I use Lexol Vinyl Treatment, for the fabric (or carpet) I use Lifter 1.

p.s. I took some in-car video today. With luck I'll be able to edit and post it tonight...(still need exterior video)
Sorry to dig this one up, but I scraped away on my passenger visor for about 15 minutes with goof off before I got it to satisfactory level...what did you use to scrape at it while the goof off disolved the adhesive?

No difference at all. If you do a proper job it will fit and seal as perfectly as the OEM roof. There's no new rattles either, but how well you take the interior trim out and refit will determine that. If you break any clips (which is possible, as they're made of the thinnest plastic in the world!) then make sure you replace them...

I have my own pressure wash at home and have given it a good hosing down a few days after fitting (to let the sealant go off and dry thoroughly first) - we've also had some pretty bad weather this summer here in the UK, and through it all my interior has stayed as dry as it ever was.

I don't know ifall the pics were posted on here, but there's a load of photos we took of the work being carried out on my Flickr Page. Have a browse through and you'll see pretty much what was involved

For those that wondered if it was a true replacement panel, or just an overlay... this should answer your questions

-I didn't scrape at all. I applied the Goof Off with a rag, and moved it in little circles with light pressure. After a few seconds the sticker just started falling off in little pieces. Are you sure you have Goof Off?

Weird. Maybe I got an extra strength version. Try HD and see if they carry a different version

p.s. I'd post a pic of my bottle, but I'm on the road right now...

how much weight did you loose with the carbon roof. And did you leave the carbon or did you paint it?

Pal, I noticed on another forum you mentioned that you might look into the EvoTech software...any chance you came up with anything?

-No, I haven't had time these last few weeks. I did take some more pics of my modified side markers though.
(Please excuse the crappy stock exhaust, my BMS exhaust was in the shop for final jigging)

Is that corrected. What does that represent in crack HP?

...and do they have software that allows us to take advantage of intake and/or exhaust mods?

Can't help myself just have to say that everything goes twice as fast when measured in crack HP

Good numbers ROM3N, were those both done on the same day/conditions? What was the software install like?

Btw guys, I had a chance to drive my Coupe with only the BMS Stage 1 (mufflers) and it is quieter than the Stage 2 (mufflers and x-pipe). I prefer the Stage 2, but the Stage 1 still sounded very good. The tone is the same, the volume just increases more with the throttle with the Stage 2. If you want a good performance sound, pick the Stage 1. If you want good performance sound AND a nice loud bark at higher revs (and a little more weight loss and air flow), pick the Stage 2. Neither drone.

That was the same day before and after the flash. Install was easy I went to lunch while they did it took about an hour once they got the file from Evotech. I think it took a few hours to send the file and get it back.

-Cool! To elaborate on "to send the file and get it back" means? Did your shop scan your ECU and then send it to Evotech and they sent you back new software?

i am quite interested in the ecu upgrade...

interesting that no other company has one yet, i would really like to see AA or someone else through out a program as well

i dont wanna just throw out 800 plus prob another 200 to a shop for something I cant really guarantee is getting me anything...

i would probably like to see one other car with a before and after, but thats just me, because their site just says + so and so tq + so and so hp

i was just thinking...

they dont show the actual before and after #'s and the graph is so small so its hard to see if their baseline SUCKED, and we cant tell if their after is bumped up or anything of the sort...

and even rom3n's isnt really that impressive, and doesnt seem to reflect the gains they claim, 280 at the wheel, some stock cars are dynoing at that, their claims should throw him into the 290's... hmmmm
