My ED trip photos

Day 0 -- 1/28/07

Arrived in Munich in the morning. I knew I'd come to the right place because from the plane I could see a porsche Cayenne, BMW 5 series and a mercedes on the aiport tarmac!

Anyway, checked into the the Munich Marriot (used priceline to reserve based on info here). Great hotel and location. Wandered around Munich the whole afternoon. What a beautiful city. Took the city tour double decker bus that leaves from near the hauptbanhoff. This is a must for people on limited time since the splendour of the city really becomes apparent.

Another highlight was the coupe exhibition and lenbachplatz, thanks to a previous post here. Couldn't wait to see my saddle brown coupe and this provided some food for my appetite.

Got back to the hotel tired and ready for my delivery the next morning.

Day 1 - 1/29/07 -- ED

Well, the time finally arrived. I made my way to Freimann in the morning via the subway. Despite all the good info here I ended up further down from the center but made my way back and rang the buzzer. It was snowing and extremely windy. Was let in. Waited about an hour before a lady arrived and took me to the car! She did a great job explaining everything, putting all my destinations into the nav (thanks to disk from beewang). I wanted to go to a dealership, to harms to do pre-paperwork, and to neuschwanstein. She also helped me pair my t-mobile dash which paired painlessly and transferred all my numbers. Flashlight was missing and she got one and put it in.
No manual with my car. She said it would arrive in the US.

I asked her about washing and waxing the car since I'd read on the forums here that the paint may not be cured. She actually mentioned that it is good to wash so that any damage can be observed before drop off clearly. Great advice!

Anyway, the moment was savoured, new car moment experience, and the time to move on and had come.

Did you drive to the Neuschwanstein castle on Monday? If so, me and Gianny saw you driving around there. The two of us took a bus tour there (we had each already dropped our cars off at Harms).

That's a sharp color combo.

The pic of the speedo looks like it was taken going 120+ on the autobahn!

Yes, Gianny mentioned this on a different thread. Too bad I couldn't hook up with you guys.

Great car and color combo. How long did it take you to get out to the castle? I've heard the long route around 2h and the shorter more boring route at 45min. Did the nav get you there via the shorter route?

Thanks

This was one trip where I just blindly followed the nav since I didn't have time to purchase a regular map -- tail end of a business trip and I was tired -- usually I also consult a map to figure out how I want to go. However, it took a bit less than 2 hours and it used the autobahn at least half the way.

So was the 2h drive each way worth it for the time at the castle? I've heard the tour is a little over 1/2h.

This was my second choice of color but I decided to go with AW/saddle. Great pics, too. Thanks.

I'd say it was good but not worth doing if you've to go really out of you way. However, if you have the time and/or it's on your way somewhere, it's worth checking out since the castle is pretty splendid inside.

Well, we'd pretty much head out there, do the castle stuff, and head back to Munich. So maybe if we can figure out the 45min version it'll be better. Anyone know how to program the Nav to get the trip in 45min?

Take the main highway not the back roads. Depending on traffic and weather, you can make it in 45 minutes.

So just tell the Nav to take you fastest route? Or is there some highway option on the Nav?

VKK, what did you put into the nav to get the 2h route?

So don't they wash the car prior to you picking up an ED?

I was expecting to see my car all cleaned up and ready to be delivered like I picked it up at the dealer.

You make it sound like they just send someone out to some large parking lot to grab your car by number and drive it to a maintenance bay and then they go over the car with you. If so I must say I am a bit disappointed. Since we order the cars at least three months in advanced they must have a list of cars that are being picked up for each day. I would have expected each car to be brought in out of the weather at leased the day prior to pickup, cleaned and ready to pickup in an environmental friendly setting.

Am I crazy for expecting this to happen?

Tell me it isn’t so!!!!

I thought he was talking about washing it before you drop it off at Harms. Some people like to wash it so it isn't dirty sitting on a boat for 6 weeks.

I (or I should say the lady who helped me) just punched in the town where the castle is -- schwangau

In the NAV it's possibe to say avoid highways, fastest route, slowest route etc. You may try using highways with fastest route option and see what comes up.

They have car washes as in the US. There's a really good thread here about washing your car if you search it will come up. It's best to use the self service car wash. Almost all Shell gas stations have these. You put in 1 or 2 euro coins and there are several steps including soap, rinse, wax etc. I would not use an automatic car wash on your new car.

Snareman,

One more thing, since you're in a hurry, you can actually call and reserve your tickets for the castle tour. You may want to do this. In my case, I actually had to wait over an hour before the english tour started. My guidebook had the phone number but I already returned it to the library, but you should be able to find it.
