Here is info on the console w/ bin for the e39. The non-sliding euro console is the one I put in.

Just finished swapping the US-style armrest with a sliding & tilting armrest with tray . Very easy installation.

I want to do the sliding tilting one also. Did you use any of your existing console? What parts did you use? (base bin and cover) Did you get it locally in the Bay Area or mail order?

Thanks

I used the following parts:
Center arm rest, Montana leather, black, 51168190199
Center arm rest sliding unit, 51168196965
Center arm rest tray, 51168196967
Two M4 lock nuts and M4 washers, Orchard Supply Hardware

I ordered by phone from Circle BMW, New Jersey. $428 shipped.

You need to disassemble the US armrest and reuse the four Torx screws to fasten the leather top to the armrest base. The screws are only accessible by sliding the base all the way open. For the tilting & sliding base, you need to press the tilt mechanism into the closed position (against the springs) in order to access the back screw holes.

My local OSH did not stock M4 locknuts and locking washers, so I just used a pair of flat washers and M4/0.7mm pitch regular nuts per bolt.

If anyone finds out the BMW part number for the lock nuts, please let us know.

The non-sliding will cost about $100 parts and the sliding one about $400.

I put the extra $300 elsewhere (my SSK & CDV delete).

Good point because I also have the sliding/tilting but I have never used the sliding part. Might be good for someone real short that needs to move it forward. If I would have known it was $100 for the euro console w/o the sliding base I would have gone that route versus the $400 for the sliding that never gets used.

The extra $$$ is for the leather cover vs vinyl. jfai got the montana leather cover which is more $$$.

chiefwej; what were the part # for what you ordered? Was it vinyl or leather?

I found this part # for the vinyl grey package
51-16-8-196-937 $155 list $133 disc. but it is listed as cover instead of armrest assy. I wonder if it is indeed the armrest package. (cover+base+tray)

I got the vinyl covered one pictured as "package deal #2". The part numbers are all listed. My console looks exactly like the gray one in the pictures. It matches the interior well & for $100 and 20 min. of my labor, I'm very happy with it.http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/Armrest/armrest.htm
