Heyyyyy guys. Found this thread from maxima.org

BUT WAIT! Before I get flamed.......

I have an older bimmer, but my Maxima is my daily driver, so naturally there would be a bias, but I would certainly have to chime in that whoever that maxima owner was, I can completely agree that they were a ricer/street idiot, and most likely has never been on The Org.

In reality, I believe many members also have bimmers and 70-85% all aspire to own one or definitely look up to them as an outstanding higher class of cars. So please hate the driver, and not the community =)

Bimmer-envy

This thread reminds me of a theory I came up with. I think a lot of owners of Japanese cars, especially something like a Maxima, can be really insecure about comparing their cars to BMWs. I think pretty much all of them understand that Japan has always stolen ideas and styling cues from BMW and Mercedes and others. [A couple cases in point how, more so in the late '90s but, Lexus cars looking like Mercedes clones, and now today how we're seeing Bangle-touches on some Toyotas, for cryin' out loud.]

I'll admit that Japan makes some great cars but they rarely come up with an original idea. Also, everyone that's ever picked up a Motor Trend or Car & Driver magazine knows that the BMW 3 and 5 series cars have been THE benchmark car that everyone else is comparing themselves to. So, therefore, some owners of Japanese cars, know, and feel insecure about, the fact that they drive an imitation. The Maxima owner in this thread is jealous of the Bimmer, and that HE'S got the knock-off.

This broadens their target market, and for us consumers, more choices. It's a veritable win-win and absolutely nothing wrong with it, except for wannabees in their Maximas .

Porsche has done it for years with their factory "Turbo-look" 911's sans turbo engine (now their "S" models) where you get the Turbo suspension, brakes, and body.
There's adifference between German sport package and Japanese sport package:
German sport package will throw in some real sport package (suspensions, steering to name a few) plus the body parts
Japanese sport package will throw you some stickers and emblems.

Here ya go

Not completely true. My wife drives a little Sentra & her Type R is a bit different from the typical Nissan Sentra.

What a freaking moron... difference between an auto enthusiast and a douche who thinks of himself as one.

Friends of mine that are into cars but not bimmers rag on me when they first look at my interior and see the ///M badged steering wheel and shifter knob - until I point out that it's a factory trim option.

I believe SE-R models of Sentra Spec V have the 2.5 motor, however the same 6 speed w/HLSD as found on Nissan's other 6 speed models (maxima, altima) at the time, with the exception of a different bell housing. Hence, many go about doing 3.5 swaps in their Sentras (hardcorez FTW) or many individuals convert their already 3.5 cars to 6 speed by buying the Sentra tranny for around $200 and a little extra for a matching bell housing

Sorry for getting off topic =P

Regardless, BMWs are in a whole different (and upper) class than most Japanese cars, so no need to worry about rice boys like the ones in the first post.
