umm so to find out if you actually have LSD check for a switch infront of your shift knob (by the heated seats switch)
you can turn of your traction control
if theres no button then theres no LSD
as far as i know
but the jack i bought and keep in the car haha
i cant believe the jack that came with the car

You have to either go do a burnout and see if both tires spin or jack the car up and if you spin the back wheel one way the other side will spin opposite. I like the first option

What if only one tyre spins every now and then? Normally I leave twinnies but occasionally only peg leggers.

Get both rear wheels off the ground, put the car in gear, and spin one of the rear wheels, if the other one spins in the opposite direction, its open, if neither spin, it's an lsd.

Doing a burnout is always a great way to see if you have LSD. If they both spin then you are good to go.

Okay, embarrassingly, I need clarification on this... I jacked my car up, had it in neutral (it's a manual), and turned one of the rear wheels. The opposite wheel didn't move at all. I've heard conflicting info on how to perform this test.

How can you spin the wheels with the car in gear? Wouldn't you then be trying to rotate the engine with your hands?

Since the opposite wheel didn't move, I just assumed I didn't have an LSD, but now I'm not so sure. When I punched it on wet roads a few weeks ago, the whole back end stepped out, suggesting that both wheels were spinning.

Should the car actually be in gear when rotating the wheels while it's jacked up? Sorry for being fuzzy on this!

OR.
You could look at the tag on the diff.

If it has an S, it's an LSD

Why didn't anyone mention this before? Or have they? Hmmm.

Is the tag visible when sliding underneath the car to take a look?

We have, just not in this thread.
Ken posted a picture, but I have no idea where.

And I think it's in plain sight, don't quote me on that though

winter package = lsd

i spin 1 wheel the other does nothing.

i have lsd, if i do a burnout 2 wheels leave long black lines on the street

but on my black car which was non lsd, when i do a burnout both wheels would chirp but only one would leave a black line.

Where would this tag be located? I still have hope that mine may be LSD, and i want to be sure of the answer.

Where do you find the OEM BMW Shift kit? or is it talking about using the Z3M shifter?
