???launch control???

greetings,
I just purchased a 2004 M3 coupe and I absolutely love it. The power the car has is unmatched to anything I've been in before, granted they aren't anything to brag about. I had heard rumors about a few settings that can be programed for different modes. For example one called launch control and others pertaining to the car's general capabilities. I'm sure there are several capabilities this car has that I'm unaware of, but hopefully will be able to experience them. Thanks and if anyone knows these settings I would appreciate some advice.

I'm sure if you search for it there are bunch of threads regarding the launch control function for your m3 and also the burn out function.

Underneath the huge sponsor banner on the top right there's the search function. Then type in m3 launch control and I'm sure you can find something.

Select manual mode, Turn OFF DSC, turn ON SPORT button, make sure all 6 lines are highlighted on the smg mode, push stick forward, and finally while holding stick forward press the gass pedal down slowly. Let go of the stick and hold on, be ready to UPSHIFT!!!

i'm not sure if it's just me, but i'm having a difficult time figuring out how to get it in S6 mode. i can obviously get to S5, but not sure how to obtain that extra bar. everything else makes sense to me. The SMG is way more effective then I knew, relative to the speed of shifting.

Are you in Manual or Automatic mode? Automatic only has 5 modes whether DSC is on or off. Manual mode has the extra 6th bar when DSC is off.

Be advised that some people find the SMG display on the dash confusing when it comes to displaying Manual vs. Automatic mode. Note that the transmission will always switch to Manual mode when you call for a shift via paddles or the gear shift lever.

So, shift using paddles or lever, turn DSC off, and you should see an extra "slot" for the 6th bar.

i'm not sure what the problem is for me....DSC is on/off as indicated by the dash, when i have it in manual mode 'D' and press the DSC the light comes on, push it again and the light goes off but no additional bar comes up. my year is a 2004, does that have anything to do with it??

i'm an idiot, i just figured it out, i was thinking when the light is on, DSC is engaged, but in reality it's just the opposite, means it's disengaged when the light is on. thank you to all and again sorry for my stupidity.

Oh man, I can't wait.

So how do we make our US M3s LC at 3500rpm instead of 1500?

so i was able to do it, but i burned out-not what i wanted to do, but damn it was awesome. i'm not sure why i burnt out instead of not but for people like me that aren't too familiar with M3 this is a pretty good website explaining the capabilites of the car.

You have to ease into the gas pedal and don't put it to the floor to just launch.

Have Fun

Good Luck

i knew to ease into the pedal, but have read to put all the way to the floor. will try, but from what i read it depends on how gradual the pedal is pushed dtermines between a burn out and launch

You have to SLOWLY press it to the floor. There are 2 modes, one is burnout and one is maximum launch speed. If you slowly press the pedal all the way to the floor the car will monitor wheel slip and prevent a burnout and give you maximum launch.
If you slam the pedal to the floor it will do a burnout; It will go all out and ignore any wheel slip. Not pretty and hard on the drivetrain too ( but so is the other mode). Unless you like to replace tires often this isn't something you want to do much.

The gas pedal must be FULLY depressed at all times while in LC mode.
