What's New in '08 for The Mighty 7?

BMW will make significant changes to both the visuals and driving dynamics to keep up with the more modern S Class. The new car will feature a much cleaner look with less character lines and flame surfacing. The exterior gets new head and tail lights with splashing of chrome across the trunk lid as well as around the glasshouse. Inside, the gear selector moves from the steering column back to the center tunnel.


The new 7 also gets an adaptive pneumatic cushioning suspension system, the active steering treatment and BMW’s xDrive--All wheel drive mode as an option. The 7-series will be released late '07 as a 2008 model.

My personal comments:

There was a time BMW exclaimed, We do not require all wheel drive as our cars are balanced and with proper tyres you'll have all you need for in climate weather.

Not to say all wheel drive is a bad thing. But... A company is in business to make money and if the perception is all wheel drive is better and the market is buying into this belief (Literally), then BMW has no choice but to circum to the forces of earning that money--Market share.

It's going to look weird to see a 7 Series with an xiL badge on it.

Everything I have read says it will be released in the 2008 calender year.

I really hope the 7 does become available in all wheel drive. Im not a big fan of swapping out tires, etc.

Well it sounds nice. Maybe I'm late, but I didn't expect them to change up like this. I was looking to get a 06' 750Li, but I just may have to shell out the extra money if I like this new 7.

That's an old article gbelton...and as far as I know, inaccurate, at least regarding the 7er. I would expect the F01 in calendar year 08, as an 09 model. The 1 series information is probably pretty close to true. And that thing can't come soon enough!

I think it might even be later then that because production is going to start in fall 2008 and '09 models should be hitting around spring '09 according to edmundsfor the US market...and the following sources....
