Question Toronto Natives - Nice Restaurants?

Ok guys, I'm already planning on coming out to TO for Valentine's day weekend for both the Car Show and to see the Lion King. I'll be coming out on Feb 14th and need some help picking a nice restaurant to bring my date.

I'm specifically looking for restaurants in the downtown TO area near the Convention Center or King Street. I'm looking for Italian, Thai or Japanese restaurants.

Anyone have the names of some nice restuarants and where they are located? I figure I will need to make reservations soon; especially if these restaurants are really nice.

Thanks in advance!

I enjoy "I'l Fornello's" Italian food on Queens Quay Terminal Harbourfront. There's also a great Chinese food restaurant there called "Pearls". It's a 2 minutes drive from the Convention center.

Both are "high end" enough to take a date to.

There are the typical downtown "expense account" restaurants in the bank towers. You know the ones where you order an appetizer, entree and a drink for 2 people and you just spent $150... and you're still hungry. Took my wife out to one called "Jump" on our anniversary, and had to laugh at the outrageous bill compared to the small portions. Not my bag baby.

Not into Japanese food, so I can't recommend any... and I don't know any downtown Thai restaurants.

If you're up for French... I went to a good one there once. I think it's called "Le Papillon". The tart au sucre dessert is to die for.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not a Toronto native.

Thanks for the link JP! I'll check this out. I've had French food but never been to a purely French restaurant. I'll have to ask my friend if she's up for this.

I'l Fornello has the BEST Tira Misu I've ever had. There should be a law against it!

JP certainly knows TO much better than I do, but I'd be remiss if I didn't suggest the restaurant (I forgot the name of it exactly, and there are several) at the Royal York, but it's the nice one. You don't have to get all dressed up there, it isn't that expensive, and the food/service are quite good. It's also just a few blocks down from the convention center, and it's an awesome property to just walk around and check out. In addition, they have some pretty good bars there as well.

Have fun and good luck in the competition.

P.S. Although it's by no means fancy, be sure to try to grab a meal at a Green Mango. I think there are a couple, although I always ate at the one up on Yonge, across the street from JP's favorite hang-out.

;-)

Hows it going... where have you been hanging out?

Green Mango is a good selection.

I can vouch for both those places, they're fancy enough for a date

Also, in the same locale, there's Pier 4 (a bit to the west from Queen's Quay Terminal). It has somewhat rustic appearance, but is quite fun. They serve excellent seafood of no particular cultural belonging.

Fune japanese restaurant is purty nice. They've got a sushi train one can play with You'll have to drive there, though, but it's close by.

Further away, a super nice italian restaurant called "Vie Allegro". Beautiful interior, excellent-e food! The best place we've found in a while, very romantic It's pretty far away, though, Gardiner and 427 highway. 20-40 minutes drive, but totally worth it.

Also, a really cozy italian place, reservation only. It's quite small and not flashy but food is simply superb. It's called "Across the road". 30-40 minute drive too, but again, really worth it.

If you don't mind the drive I really recommend the last two places.

You want to hook up for the autoshow?
Cheers.
