2004 X5 Changes

Another post to this dead board:

I knew that 4.5 Valvetronic engine would come to the X5 soon. Even VW SUV's will have over 300hp soon, so BMW had to pony up a stronger motor.

The rumors are a flying, regarding the refreshed X5, coming in model year 2004.

Here's what we know so far:

1. 4.4 will bump up to 325HP, like the current 7-series

2. New front grill and bumper fascia,

3. Headlights front and rear change (Bi-zenon/more LED usage like 7)

4. Sirius satellite option

5. More optional features included in the standard car price

6. Adaptive headlight option

7. 6-disc cd changer in dash

8. New larger standard and optional wheels

7. Ventilated seat option possible

8. New steering wheel

On a seemingly related note: 4.6 production will stop in September.

That sucks. The 4.6 is one cool vehicle. It's kind of like an M version of the X5. I wonder if they will make one

No real point to continue the 4.6 as the 4.5 will have similar power.

Based on the 4.8 Dual Vanos motor that is in the Alpina Z8. Also rumored is a 6 speed auto from the new 7er.




A couple of more weeks and my M3 should be fixed.

Slow and go, stop and go on the freeway on Christmas Day and a guy in a new F150 isn't paying attention and plows into me w/o slowing down. I figure he was doing about 25 when he hit me. I was dead stopped.

Luckily, no physical damage to me that I can tell. No structural damage to the car. The right rail will be replaced, along with the rear floor pan and the right rear panel and obviously the bumper. Also the front hood and front bumper -- he pushed me into the car in front of me. Estimate is $16K.

Thank goodness I was in a BMW !

I wonder if the in-dash CD changer will make it to the 3 series as well.
