Greetings from Munich!

I arrived in Munich about 2 hours later than expected. The flight in Atlanta was delayed because the plane was in the middle of an "oil change". Hmmm . . . hopefully not at Jiffy Lube - at any rate we made it 'cross the Atlantic to Munich. Rolf was kind enough to greet me at the gate but due to the fact that he had another client with wife and kids in tow he needed to move on so I took a taxi - no big deal. To put things in perspective I was true to form and slept maybe 15 minutes on the flight despite the 2 Benadryl I took so I was definitely a bit dain bramaged when I got to the delivery center. Though jfulcher () was nice enough to send me a PDF of the food voucher I never had a chance to print it and it didn't matter - I was able to enjoy some Weisswurst with mustard before delivery began. I also signed the Bimmerfest book though at the time I was thinking . . . why don't my hands work? Oh yeah, no sleep and jet lag.

At any rate the car is duh, spectacular. This was my first time with a stick in about 2.5 years and I stalled it once trying to get out of the garage but never again. By the time I got to the Renaissance I'd gotten it down.

I hit the U-Bahn and headed straight for the Marienplatz, bier and food. I wound up at Augustiner Gaststätte for eine mass of dunkel and the beef braised with vinegar, a large dumpling and red cabbage. Sehr gut!

Anyway, it's about 6:30pm local and it's time for some sleep. Hopefully these attachments work...

Oh, and I can't finish this post without a big shout out to Adrian and all the other folks around here who helped make this adventure possible. I can't wait to drive the car tomorrow with a clear head. For now it's safely stowed below the hotel, whatever the fees.

Guten nacht.

Congrats! Looks like nice weather in Munich.

Can't believe the plates are already in the 7600's. Hoping to get 8000.

Guten nacht.
Performance anxiety eh! Seriously, congrats on the new ride. It looked busy in the garage, I don't know if I've seen that many people in a pic before. Glad to hear the voucher wasn't needed. Enjoy the rest of your trip, can't wait to see the rest of your pics.

More from Deutschland

I'm having a great time, particularly with the car. I took the Romantic Road from Augsburg all the way to Fuessen with a short stop to tour Schloss Hohenschawangau. This was pretty casual driving with a few twisties to enjoy but the car is great. Pictures include a morning shot of Fuessen and the clock tower, a shot of the car with the Alps as a backgrop while driving through Austria to Eibsee and finally a shot of the view waiting for the gondola to ride up to the top of Zugspitze. I finished this trip with a very fast 100mph (or so, break in period ya know!) drive back to Munich to the Marriott in North Munich. Even at 100mph there had to be cars passing me going 130 or more. Wow.

My only concern with the car is a clicking I'm feeling and sort of hearing in the drivetrain that can be felt through the steering wheel at low speeds when going through towns or slow areas. It may be nothing or normal behavior but if not I suppose I can get it dealt with when the car arrives in Atlanta if they don't take care of it at the VPC. It's gonna be a long wait. I just totally love the sports seats and the way they hug you. Top-notch.

Without navigation all of this would have been a nightmare so big thanks to Beewang for his loaner program.

I generally don't take much in the way of medicine, but decided to take 50mg of Benadryl on the flight over thinking it would knock me out for hours. I barely got an hour sleep with it.

The now not so rare disguised M3 sighting

OK, today I was sitting at the Voithstraße bus stop which is just out the road from Harms. I was waiting on the 292 bus that would take me to Oberschleißheim to get on the S-Bahn to Freising. Lo and behold I hear a low rumble across the way and look up to see a silver M3 couple with black "disguise" tape all over it speeding away - it had the tell-tale quad exhaust pipes as well. I felt like one of the few and proud who saw the Loch Ness monster!

A word on Freising. I was a bit bummed because I'm at the Marriott near the airport in Freising and it's a long walk or cab ride to the S-Bahn to head back into the city. I was beat at that point and thought why not check out Freising? I inquired at the front desk and they pointed me to the Weisshaus Huber restaurant in downtown Freising. It was as good or better than any of the other Gasthof's I ate at and downtown Freising is charming and worth the visit - certainly not nearly as many tourists but plenty of servers at the Weisshaus with perfect English (very helpful for a 'merican like me). On the walk to the Weisshaus I found the perfect handmade Easter Bunnies for my niece and nephew. Their parents and my parents get no souvenirs. I, of course, get a new 335i very soon. I wish I'd had more time for shopping and well . . . everything.

At any rate, there was no time to grab the camera for the M3 so you'll have to live the last few shots I took at Schloß Nymphenburg and at Harms. Wake up call comes at 6:45AM so I'm outta here soon.

The front end suspension definitely needs work - something is not torqued correctly and the rattle/looseness is more pronounced than when I first noticed it. I'm not worried, I know it will be taken care of before I take delivery and other than that the car is everything I was expecting and as I get more used to it and the clutch/stick feel it will exceed my expecations I am sure - this is clearly something that bypassed inspection and didn't start until I reached Augsburg on the second day.

The long wait begins . . .

I think there just happened to be a lot of folks there at the time. They apparently do a lot of Friday deliveries since people arrive to have a long weekend as they begin their trip.

Some final thoughts on my trip:
If I had it to do over again I'd have arrived a day before delivery to get my bearings and so that I could be more clear-headed when experiencing the delivery. I'm pretty sure this has been recommended before I just didn't follow that advice in hopes of saving one vacation day on the trip. Events moved too quickly for my mental state. This is not to say that anything went wrong mind you, but I just would have enjoyed it more if I'd been more rested. I was going completely on adrenalin. I suppose that if you travel internationally all the time and have trained yourself to sleep on planes it might not be as much of a problem.

The second thing I'd change would have been to stay longer and see more outside of Munich. Munich is nice but really too much to take in on a short trip. My favorite parts of the vacation were of course driving my new car through the backroads between Füssen and Eibsee through Austria and seeing the smaller towns like my last night in Friesing. I think if you want to do Munich then go there and stay for a week and forget a car since the transit system is so top-notch. For European delivery, since you have a brand new car drive it, experience the Autobahn, but then get off of it and let the nav guide you through the backroads so you can really see the country.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the posts. I'm picking up same day like you and sure hope I get some sleep on the plane. Gonna try Tylenol PM and melatonin after a couple of glasses of wine.
