In case you're talking about the Automatic "Hand-brake", one useful feature is that it combines the advantages of a manual with the advantages of an auto-transmission (i.E. you don't have to leave your foot on the brake in stop-and-go traffic). Every time you come to a complete stop, your car won't move an inch unless you put your foot on the accelerator again - even on a hill. It is VERY comfortable.

Look around you in traffic-jams: I'm sure you notice all the brake-lights. They all have to keep their foot on the brake so their car won't move...

Hmm, that seems pretty excessive. I thought maybe it was for people who live in San Francisco.

Yep, that feature comes in very handy for them...

Not trying to burst all of your bubbles....BUT

I live in San Francisco....

With all the bumper to bumper traffic which creeps and stops.... it's better to go WITHOUT the auto-park .. It's definately easier to modulate your creeping speed by just using the brakes than to BRAKE, then GAS, then BRAKE, then GAS, as required when the auto-park feature is on.

As for the hills, I guess it can come in handy if you're so afraid of rolling back into someone. However, I doubt that will happen unless you're completely oblivious when driving a car.

IMHO, the feature is useless.

It comes in real handy when you have to sit in surface street traffic with lots of stop lights. I use it in my long commute everyday and it really helps.

I use it just for the sake of feeling like I've used every feature on the car other than that I can't say I need it at anytime.

Excessive? I think not.
