E92 M3 only 33 lbs. heavier than E46 M3; lighter than 335i??
Looks like we have official word on the weight, at least in EU spec.
M3 Official Press Release at bmwusa.com 1655kg, EU unladen, which is DIN road weight (all fluids) and includes 75kg for driver and luggage. I'm guess that is for a base spec car without the EDC and perhaps even without power seats. Regardless, translating this to US curb weight: 1655-75= 1580kg Which is 3,483 lbs. That is only 33 lbs. heavier than the E46 M3 (3450) and 88 lbs. LIGHTER than the 335i (3571). This could be good news :keeps fingers crossed: |

Official BMW figures:
Car . . . . . . . . . . Euro . . . . . . . USA E46 M3 . . . . . . . 1570 kg . . . . . . 3415 lbs E92 M3 . . . . . . . 1655 kg . . . . . ? E92 335i . . . . . . 1600 kg . . . . . . 3571 lbs All figures per BMW Germany (Euro) and BMWUSA (USA) which includes 90% fluids, 68 kg driver and 7 kg of other for the Euro cars. I'd agree that all these numbers are probably for cars without options. But it looks to me like the E92 M3 will be heavier than the 335i.

Ugh. I think you're right.
This is odd though, 1600 kg = 3527.4 lbs. which is a small enough deviation from the US quoted weight to suggest equipment differences. But Road and Track weighed their 335i at a whooping 3635 curb weight (that's w/o a driver). So what gives here? Regardless, if BMW.com is showing the 335i at 1600 kg EU unladen, then the M3 must be heavier unless their 335 comes with with no interior and is a bare rolling chassis. 55 kg, which is 125 lbs. Suggesting our M3 might be at least 3652 lbs. |
