Smile 2003 m3 questions

Hello, I'm new to these forums so if I didn't post this is in the right area sorry. But I was thinking about buying a 2003 BMW m3 coupe with78,000 miles for 16k. Would this be a good price? Also does the e46 m3 have good torque to make it a fun drive I know the top speed without limiter is pretty fast but I guess what I'm wondering is if it is quick. Will I be able to beat my friends 2004 Subaru wax sti? I have heard I would blow it away because BMW m3's are some of the best made cars around performance, looks, and quality wise. I will of course test drive the car but I don't want to drive almost 300 miles to be disappointed from what I've heard. Oh and it's silver with a read leather interior the smg Version. If that helps

Haha no sorry he just always talks it up much more than it is. Even though they are fast cars but from what I know m3's would beat it. I was wondering others opinions. Also just wondering if this is a car I should spend 15-23k on.

Get a M3, ran against a 2011 STI and took it. M3 is a fun car that pulls all the way through the RPM range. Remember they are quick straight line, but are a bench mark for road course. I have had Mustangs, the last one was a 89 with a 347 stroker, It would beat my M3 in a drag race, but not on a road course. My 04 M3 is a six speed stick shift. It had 87000 miles on it when I got it. I have only had one major problem and that was my alt went out. 560 bucks from BMW, but shop online and you can find rebuilds for 150 to 200 dallors after shipping. My 04 now has 96000 on it and other than the alt and washer fluid have had no other problems. Its a daily driver and has been to California from Texas twice. Its the best 15-20k you will spend hands down. I have herd stay away from the SMG

Thanks for the message. I don't know to get the m3 or a m5 if you've driven both do you have any advice? I've heard you feel the power much more on the m5 than the m3.

I have only driven a M3 and fell in love with it. My friend has a 2002 M3 and after driving it, it made me buy mine. I can't speak for the M5, but I am shure it would have its advantages and disadvatages over the 3. I know the M3 is BMWs flag ship coupe. If you are looking for a sports coupe go with the M3, But if you like fourdoors than there is the M5. I don't think it comes as a coupe.

I really do like both. It will probably just come down to what the better deal will be for the two. But can you tell me,and I know not to base a car off just this, but does the m3 feel fast? Like acceleration or just the put you back in your seat kind of feel?

M3s feel slower than they are. The torque curve is very flat, so you don't get the rush of more power as teh revs climb. But the rush is there from the start, and stays all through the rev range.

Ok thanks. What is probably going to come down to now is which car I can get for a better deal. Do you know how the e39 m5 feels?

The M3 feels quick. It feels fast after driving a 2005 Malibu everyday, but if you have been driving a SRT everyday it may feel a little sluggish until you try turning. One of my buddies drove mine and like how it pulls through the whole RPM range, but like I said he drives a Honda STI everyday so it felt a lot faster to him.
