Phone question
For those of you whose phones work, what message do you see when you put the phone in the cradle? The 2003 we just bought didn't have a phone, but when I put the one I bought in the cradle, I just see "reading data" on the idrive screen. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

So, I have found partial albeit inconsistent answers to my own question. One person here states that a non-BMW V60 works fine others state that the BMW CPT9000 phone is required. Any thoughts? Thanks...

my '02 uses a CPT 8000 and I know for a fact that the phone requires BMW firmware on it, not any phone of the similar model will work.
When you first put in the key, on the top of the iDrive screen, you will Phone connected. After that, it will only display the signal strength. |

Actually, the other night I've tried out a non-BMW V60i (that's V60 with color display) and works just fine. It did initially a 'data read' for couple of minutes and synchronized very nice.

Strange! The one I tried seemed to be stuck on "reading data" for at least 30 minutes or so. We drove around, and it never changed... Oh well, I found one that is labeled BMW, so I will try that one.

I can relate to this now. I've tried another V60, this time the GSM version and I've got the same problem. At this point it looks to me that only Motorola V60 and V60i NON-GSM phones would work.
