What is the unrestricted top speed of the X5?
In theory, if the electronic leash is removed.
Just out of curiosity, not that I ever intend to drive my new X5 over 120 mph or so...

I'd check the gear ratios/redline/tiresize combo first to see if it gets to redline near its existing limited topspeed as it is on my car. Raising the revlimiter ~300rpm and removing the speed limiter on my car will only give me another 10mph at best.

I'd imagine the X5 is limited by drag rather than gearing. Even in 3.0 form, the Cd. is only .35 climbing to .38 in 4.6is form.

Well, if you drop it off a cliff...
I remember reading the 4.6is is limited at 150mph. So it sounds like the 4.6is SHOULD theoretically be able to overcome aerodynamic drag at that speed with its available power. I'd be very surprised if the 3.0 will do more than 140mph. At that speed the aerodynamic drag will probably overcome the 225 HP.

I thought my (wife's...) 4.4 would do 148, but then found out only if it has the SP with 19" wheels.
Our 18" all season tires impose a 125 mph limit. I've had it over 100 (indicated) a few times, but have never been close enough to activate the limiter. BTW, you would never know you were going 100 mph... And this was through (up)hill country in Kentucky! I just loved when a Durango (it must actually think those commercials are real...) would try to pass me going uphill and I would run (not walk) away while going up an incline. Perverse pleasure, indeed

I think the 4.4 without SP is 125 mph (restricted) and with the sport package is 144 or 145 (unrestricted) <--- same for 4.6

Weight and torque are less of a factor for top speed. Horsepower and aerodynamic drag are the issues. Based on those...
My guesses: 3.0 = ~135 mph 4.4 = ~150 mph 4.6 = ~155 mph

BMW UK lists the 4.6is at 149, 4.4 at 143 mph.

Well, the 323i with a Cd of what, 0.29 or so can do 144, and for reference the 328i can do 149. Pretty impressive for a 170hp fat pig.

All this talk in the other post about hp/weight numbers. Well, my X5 doesn't look so sweet at:
Weight: 4586 Horses: 225 hp/weight: 20.3 Now, that is a FAT PIG.

Based upon recent car comparisons, here are my revised estimates...
X5 3.0 ~ 130-135 mph X5 4.4 ~ 140-145 mph X5 4.6 ~ 150 mph
