Bimmerfest $20? wtf?
I came late last year and squeezed through the back gate, but this year there were people at both gates.
$20??? for 1600 cars is $32,000 where is that money going? I heard if you bought raffle tickets that money was going to the low income people in Santa Barbara which is ironic since SB is one of the most expensive places to live in the nation so I didn't even stick around for the raffle. With all the raffle tickets too, I bet there was a gross income of over $50,000. Last time I checked at fairs and stuff the food places had to rent out a spot to have their food booth, I'm thinking that the vendors pay to have a spot too, and the only cost would be the Bimmerfest personnel $10/hr probably 10 of them for a total of 10 hrs, that's only $1000. And the cost to rent out the fairgrounds can't be over $10000. I don't work hard so that poor people can work less and receive free money. This might be the last year I support this event. |

Gee, you weren't able to beat the system this year and cheat the Bimmerfest organizers, so now you're complaining about it? Are you also unhappy that someone stole the black banners before you could get to them? U.F.B.
Have you ever heard about facility fees? You are the kind of ingrate who knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing. Go away. |

You "squeezed" thru the back gate last year, meaning you didn't pay? So you tried to free load again this year and wasn't able to, is that it? Well, here's the link for the charity your hard earned money went to, gate receipts and raffle: http://www.unityshoppe.org/ May be next time you can PM the powers that be and ask them where YOUR hard earned money went, as it is I'm biting my tongue pretty hard right now.

I live in SB, and yes while it is one of the riches places in America it is also one of the most expenisve places to live....There are very many parts of SB that are very very low income and not as pretty and nice as you think.....

This is more than a part time job for Jon, (unless he is superman). He deserves to be compensated for it, oh ya, he didn't do it alone either.
Other considerations: Promotion Insurance Fairground rental It sounds like if you didnt have $20 worth of fun, Bimmerfest may not be your thing anyway.

YES you are correct, SB is an expensive place to live in. Even more reason to help those that are not as fortunate and who are trying to make a living in SB. I see no irony there. And how, in your infinite wisdom, do you know that poor people work less ? I'm sure you couldn't hang a week in their shoes.

Apparently it was your first time supporting it.
Motion to apply a minimum age to Bimmerfest and to include a beer garden. |

I don't know why you're all piling on the OP. I mean, $20 is outrageous. I'm sure Jon pocketed all of it.
And while we're complaining about stuff, why does it cost $150 a night to stay at the Ramada? I'm sure that the room cost at their end is only about $50 a night. And why is food so expensive in restaurants? Hell, I can eat out of a garbage can for free. Seriously, dude. I cannot believe you actually pulled those figures out of your azz and started a complaint thread with your first post. Lemme guess. You're the kind of guy who would bitch about $120 floor mats on a $65,000 car. Weaksauce. The weakest.

Just wow, you apparently have no idea the time and preparation that goes into making the "largest" bmw gathering in the nation happen. 20 bucks should be the least of your worries. Once again a big props to Jon, Tim, Mark, and everyone else who makes this happen.

If you save one dollar each week ,you'll have enough to pay for TWO years worth entrance fee.

For most of us, we don't even pay attention to the entry fee. It's just an afterthought. By the time I get home around midnight tonight, I'm sure I will have spent close to 1k, which is without even counting time off work. Only 2 days' hotel, sure, but food, gas, drinks.. and while I have been "freeloading" by crashing at friends' places in LA the past few days, I then buy them dinner and drinks as a thanks -- I'm sure you could never understand that, either. It's worth the money because the whole reason I go to work is to have the money to enjoy my hobbies, so I don't think twice about spending in order to enjoy said hobbies with my good friends. In conclusion, go away.

I understand what you guys are all saying about compensation. There is a difference between profit and flat out ripping people off. I am not saying that I agree with what lucky was saying, I am just saying that there might be some truth to his statement.
I mean... Jon himself said that over 5K people attended the event. We'll say half of them brought cars and paid the $20 fee. So the event made $50K in cash on admission alone minimum. Now we're not even including vendor fees that they made money on etc... I think we could have donated a little more then $6500 to the worth while charity... |

I am 18. iv been a member here since I was 16. You are being very ignorant as to what the problem here is. He is uneducated as to the cause and the purpose of the event. Yea the kid has a bit of an attitude, he is probably around 16 or 17, same age as I am practically. He is a peer to me. He has the same sort of "stick up his butt" (as you would say) that you probably had when you were this age. You guys are ridiculous. Bark at him for trying to sneak in, and bark at him for his dishonestly and "shady-ness" But then you turn around and say "Hey lets have beer gardens at a CAR event" Great idea. You might as well call it DUI-fest. If you want to drink and then drive away in your BMW do so that doesn't endanger the better thinking half of the population. Alcohol and auto's(even auto events) do not mix. EDIT: Just back off the kid. He does not get it. Don't sit and flame him. Tell him whats up and let him be.

Sorry, but your numbers are so far off it's crazy. Am I compelled to post an Excel spreadsheet here so that you don't disrespect me and my partners publicly? 2,500 paying attendees, please pass the crack pipe. Earl Warren's main lot holds an estimated 1,200 vehicles. The cars on the grass came in with the vendors. The cars in the back by the stable either paid $0 or $5, the latter going directly to Earl Warren Showgrounds which is owned by the State of California. This thread is beginning to really piss me off. You act like it's unreasonable to be compensated reasonably for years of effort. GMAFB!

I'm not convinced there were anywhere near 2500 cars in the main lot. Last time I looked (a few days before) there were 1300 cars registered. So you're making a pretty big assumption on the numbers.
I'm not sure what the 'fest finances are, but it's either worth it to you, or it's not. Seems the popularity of the event speaks for itself.
