On my way to BF from Encino I picked up a CHP call on my scanner saying they were arresting somebody they stopped on the north bound 101. They called it in as a 148 (resisting arrest). Anyone know the unlucky driver?
I heard tons of calls from people reporting high speed convoys on their cell phones. Was amazed to hear that the CHP had no idea about the event and were caught off guard. Old ladies with cell phones are an enthusiasts worst enemy. They have the CHP on speed dial. There were more reportings than they could possibly cover but... I did see a convoy of four pulled over by a single motorcycle. Last edited by Subpilot; 05-05-2007 at 08:02 PM. |

I caravanned up with several fellow miscreants who will remain nameless. I forgot to tell them as we went by Thousand Oaks that the Ventura County sheriff likes to patrol the freeway (in contravention of state law which reserves freeway patrols to the CHP), and pull speeders over.*
Anybody going over 67 MPH in Thousand Oaks on the 101 helps to create the "target rich environment" for our men in blue (black and blue, actually) that helps to fill the city coffers. So, when my fellow caravanners sped up to 85-90 MPH I was horrified. I decided to see if their radar detectors worked and dropped back. After a while I decided to catch up to them, but even hitting 105 MPH I couldn't locate them. So, I asked them to wait for me through Santa Buenaventura and I popped out behind a truck as BeeW . . . er, one of the miscreants, was on the phone to me asking where I was. When I got to the meet I was lectured on how to drive. Another one of the miscreants, pointing to my feet, said "This is your right foot. You are supposed to push it down on the thing in your car called an accelerator pedal." I asked him to slow down and start over again so I could take notes. No tickets for our group. I also bailed out early and scuttled home after about 3 1/2 hours of festing. I mean, enough is enough. Seen 5,000 BMWs, seen 'em all.Got great fuel mileage on the way up, averaging 78 MPH, but if I posted it I am afraid the Bear would cry. He had a passenger and his car was carrying about 400 lbs more than mine. * "Well, judge, we were just using the freeway to get from the gas station to the local doughnut shop when we saw the defendant speeding. As peace officers we have the right to cite him. And even though we seem to cite 20-30 people each day, it's just because we go to the doughnut shop a lot. Between gas fill ups." |

The way towards the 'fest i maintained a paltry 65mph.
The way back though, was much shorter, when you're cruising with a pack of bimmers early on (840Ci, E36 tape up car, another E36, maybe another one) doing 85 through SB, then hit up with another E46 325i, pretty much maintained anywhere from 75-85, then another cabrio E30 doing anywhere from lame fast lane 65mph to 100mph. No tickets. Guess today was my freebie.

Wow I averaged about 75-80mph to Bimmerfest all the way from Los Angeles. I was driving the gray Z4 3.0si with a gray top if anyone noticed. I got kind of seperated from the caravan (which was already seperated from the other), but ran into a black e39 540, black e92 335, and a blue e46 330ci (I believe). We had a pretty fun drive there, passing a bunch of unfortunate pulled over bimmers.

I did the whole drive with my car's top down. I think that may have been a big mistake for a geezer like me, even though I didn't get sun burned. I can't hear much today. But the sound of the V-10 yesterday - sweet.

Heard from the guy with the resisting call. He ran and got away but I'm sure he had to empty his shorts. They had a posse after his ass.

Why would it not be? Well, law enforcement often have to detain several people at a time depending on the situation (domestic violence reports, accidents, fights, speeding, etc.) and it's very common and important in poilce work and procedure-wise.

I was pulled over after the show on my way home in the traffic coming out of SB for the most lamest thing ever...the tint on my front windows. Thats not the best part, my window was all the way down and my passenger window was 3/4 of the way down, with the sunroof open! The cop told me he pulled me over for my tint and supposedly for not wearing our seatbelts but quickly found that we were wearing harnesses. I tried asking the cop a couple of questions about why I had been pulled over and he said I was "ARGUING" with him and gave a ticket for $100 bucks. Ahh well...at least he got his quota...

The BayBimmerz caravan was a freaking sprint from Gilroy down to Atascadero (I needed to be among the first to arrive so that I could help direct traffic there - I'm not doing that again next year). Amazingly, I only saw one person pulled over during that stretch. Someone in a 540 with no radar detector and no radio decided he wanted to be out in front. He didn't hear me call out the Ka band alert to the caravan, nor did he hear me let everyone know that I saw the Northbound CHP prepare to make a U-turn to come after us. Finally, he apparently wasn't checking his rear view mirror because he failed to notice that most of us slowed down to 5 over and pulled into the right lane. Darwin was in full play on that traffic stop.
I heard later that someone who was with our group in a 997 GT3 hit 180 or so on the drive down I am tempted to bail on the caravan next year. It is out of control. I'd rather drive down there with a smaller group of my friends at saner speeds. (edit: I should note that this is my fifth year with this caravan)

I got pulled over like 15 miles from SB with 2 other cars, a blue M5 and a black E36 M3. I was in the middle, cop got me doing 80, the M3 ahead of me was doing 94, so I guess I got a little lucky. Still sucks though
