Just upgraded from my '00 540i to a '04 545i & LOVE it.
I have premium sound, no aux inputs & no nav.
Im looking to do the following audio upgrades:
1. iPOD & have it in center console (concealed)
2. Sirius
What is the BEST way to do this & have a factory installed look & feel, ie: no fm transmitters, cloogy looking solutions, & run through iDRIVE if at all possible.
Ive read the ultimate iPOD link & opened the PDF's, but am unclear on what is the best of the best.
I very much appreciate any input you have, thank you.
From what I understand, your car cannot get the iPod interface (since it doesn't have nav and therefore can't get the MP3 playback retrofit like nav cars can).
So your best bet is to have the aux input installed, which will allow your iPod audio to be played through the stereo, but you will need to use the iPod to do everything except control sound. You might want to read/search the ultimate iPod thread sticky for more info. Search is your friend!
I just picked my 2004 545i up from the dealer 30 minutes ago...after having the ipod/iDrive interface installed. It integrates with the iDrive well (I have only done some initial testing), and stores in the glove box. The interface cable connects to where the CD changer was (they had to remove the CD Changer).
They did have to check my VIN to make sure it was compatible. I do not hav NAV installed.
I also have the AUX input, but it is not nearly convenient enough for driving and changing songs, etc....go for the iDrive integrated solution.
that is excellent, very good to hear.
we have identical makes/models it looks like.
Let me know if you do other mods/changes to it, ie: satellite radio or other.
what was your total cost on the ipod install.
on my old '00 540 it ran me about $400 but was well worth it.
It was $469+Tax after my CCA discount. I don't have Satellite or anything else..I did ask how much the Bluetooth activation was, and they told me $250 or so.
I believe the 545s had to have the Sirius Radio Prep Option. If you have that then the dealer can add the Sirius receiver. If you don't have it then you are toast for the integrated solution. The dealer should be able to run your VIN to see if you have it.
just got word that Sirius installs can be of poor reception quality & it is a known issue w/ BMWNA. something to consider given it is a pricey option. I am passing on it.
Is that a specific problem with the Sirius network, or with BMW's implementation?
