What is the value of my 1988 325i convertible?

I have a 1988 325i convertible. it has new paint (same bmw factory red). 90,000 miles, new cloth top, interior is flawless, new ansa exhaust, and no rust. I have stock wheels along with aftermarket five spokes.

Mine was in excellent condition, low miles (137k). It had new leather, paint and transmission. New timing belt, shocks, and had just been tuned up. Newer top. Aftermarket stereo and speakers. I sold it for $6,500. It took me awhile to find the right buyer who knew that the 88 was a classic.

Yah ... the thing bout these cars is that you have to find the right buyer... not someone who wants to look at Blue Book value.

If you are trying to sell it fast you are going to get less.

Why would you sell this car I ask?

Well i'm need a little more practical car being a student. I also need something that isn't as flashy, being a red BMW, police are looking to pull you over. I got pulled over the other day on a single lane road i was about 3 car lengths behind a soccer mom(minivan) and some old lincoln was right on my tail but i got pulled over for going 45 in a 40 . I didn't even have the top down. I got away with a warning but i just need something that is just an average car. I'm not completely sure if i'm going to sell it yet.

Smile How to get a good appraisal rather than Kelley BB ?

What insurance company appraised your vehicle for that??? Mine is nearly mint and I'm putting 2 grand into it as we speak--new control arms, shocks, timing belt, muffler, hoses, belts, transmission, sensors, and a load of new rubber gaskets as they're all starting to leak fluids. The paint is perfect alpine white with gray pinstripes, near perfect Italian leather interior and I have recently re-chromed the original Pirelli 5-star wheels. I kept the dash covered since the day I bought it new in '89. I am the only owner and I chose to keep it rather than sell it today for sentimental reasons as well as practical ones...

I want to think I made the right decision about my "baby". I get offers from people I don't know on the street from time to time trying to buy it so I thought it might be worth keeping. It's been the best car I've ever owned and it's still young at 189,000 miles; always starts on a dime first time. They don't make 'em like this one anymore. I would love to get an appraisal like that when I'm done....

You failed to state the condition and for an older car this could range considerably. KBB says its worth about $1.5k to $2 grand. I recently paid $3.5k plus additional shipping costs for a similar one.

If it's in excellent shape and this one sounds like it has potential, it could be worth $6k.
