A "Better late than never" ED summary

I must have angered the ED gods by not posting an ED summary because my car is still not home. 13 days after arriving at port and no one knows exactly where it is.

So to appeal to the gods and to thank everyone on this forum for all the great information to which I couldn't have done European Delivery, here is a short write-up and some pics.

My ED trip was a very short 4 days. Therefore we only had 2 "to-dos" on the list...the factory tour and Castle Neuschwanstein.

Thurs 4/12 - arrived in Munich in the afternoon. Took a taxi to straight to the delivery center. Arrived and was quickly welcomed by the receptionist. Waited in the cafe area for not 30 mins before a rep came by with the paperwork.
In just over an hour, we were out on our way. I was very disoriented just getting off the plane and relizing that i was now driving my brand new car in a foriegn country...and in which I had forgotten to study about the "rules of the road" for Germany! Owell, off to Harms to meet Thomas. After missing the exit and doubling back, we made it to harms to fill out the paperwork since i was dropping off on Sunday. i must say, Thomas is a nice guy.
Headed back to the Marriot to check in and spend the rest of the evening in the Marzienplatz (spelling?).

Fri 4/13 – Ate breakfast at the Marriot. Headed off to Regensburg for a short visit. Then off to Dingolfing for the BMW factory tour. Going into the factory tour, I was thinking it would be so boring….however, it turned out to be the best part of the trip! It’s amazing to see those cars built and assembled. Factory workers drink bier while working? 1300 cars produced and loaded onto a train daily…awesome.

Sat 4/14 – Ate breakfast again in the hotel. Checked out since we were moving to the renaissance. At checkout I finally realized that the breakfast was not included in the Priceline purchased hotel price…no biggie…but it was also something ridiculous like 22 Euros per person?! Crap! Hahah! But it was good…uh..not 22 euros good though. Off to Castle Neuschwanstein! This was supposed to be the highlight of the trip but I was actually disappointed in the Castle. Beautiful as it was…it was built as recent enough to have been built with a working telephone. Owell…had to check it out. Still good times.
So headed back to Munich and had dinner at the Hoffbrau Haus. This place is awesome! Happy Germans drinking huge beers and singing along with the band. Everyone was so nice! But when I tried to order a small weizen, the waiter replied, “You don’t want that!! That’s a girl’s bier!!”. The other folks at our table had a good laugh. So I pointed at one of those huge bier steins and said well I’ll have one of those! The waiter and the rest of the table yells, “YEAH!!!!” hahaha…good times!

Sun 4/15 – Check out. Off to Harms to drop off the car. We get a taxi to the airport and back to home we go!

Some mental notes:
- The delivery center and Harms and that whole delivery process is very well organized. Kudos to Harms and BMW
- Next time before driving in a foreign country...STUDY THE RULES OF THE ROAD!!!
- Next time I’m on the Autobahn, forget about the break-in rules…take it to 155 mph or more! Oh yes, there will be a next time!
- Bring back more chocolates! Holy smokes, German chocolates are soooo good!
- There are alot of beautiful girls in Munich and the people are so very nice.

Thanks for the report. Congrats on the car.

I'm not going to pretend to know what will placate the ED gods, but maybe pics of the beatiful girls may be a start. After all, they used to sacrifice virgins in the old days and pics won't hurt anyone.

Beautiful car and nice write-up!

Munich is a great city. I spent 3 days there and it wasn't enough.

As far as rules-of-the-road, I found the following site useful:

Well, I certainly didn't read it very carefully, except the Autobaun and speed limit stuff. I wish I had read the right-of-way stuff more carefully. I had no idea what some of the signs meant. No apparent mishaps, but who knows how many Germans/Austrians I pissed off

"Ve haff vays " is the correct spelling.

She is finally home!

Had 5 extra miles since the last time I saw her in Munich. Rear lic plate was gone but thats ok cuz I took the front one back with me on the plane.

First day of driving was busy..work...errands, etc. and i put on another 120 miles today.

i just checked and i have no oil cooler? production was in feb, so i guess it is mar builds and on that got the oil cooler.

Once again, thank you to bimmerfest and its members for the wealth of knowledge on European Delivery. The journey was so much more rewarding
