And so the nightmare continues

So after all this BS with my sunroof, the Bluetooth totally stopped working again, AND the sunroof now wont close bt more than 2" at a time and i have to keep pushing the button to get it to close.

I hate to say it, but I'm finally done with this car.

That's too bad Really sorry you've had such bad luck. You do know the reset procedure for the sunroof, right?

I avoided all the fancy electronic gadgets to cut down on the things that could possibly go wrong (following the old 'KISS' principal ). If it hadn't come standard I would have prefered an X3 without the "very cool" but complicated sunroof. Fortunately I have not had any sunroof problems in the 2 years I've owned mine but I really don't use it that much. The vent feature is nice to help cool down the interior on a hot day though.

So what are you going to do now? Swap brands or try something else BMW? Like maybe a 335?

thanks. I can't afford an X5 right now. and the 3er sedans are to small and uncomfortable to me. I just don't know, it took me 2 years to decide on this one. part of me wants a new one, the other part says run, forest, run.

it just really sucks, 'cause it's such a fun car, i just can't stand all this cr*p anymore.

coming from someone who had the 04 X3 which was a real POS, the 07 is like night and day.

id give the 07 a chance because theyve improved on every aspect of the car in my opinion.

Our X3 has been the most reliable BMW i've ever had. Amazing really, 12k miles and I haven't had a single problem.

But the e90 3 series sedan is slightly roomier than the X3, not sure why you think it is smaller.

Do you need cargo room? If not, the 3 series sedan would be great choice.

Plus, I think the e90s have been mostly trouble free.

You might like the Highlander, they are bulletproof in reliability and I think they are offering 2K cash back these days.

The CR/V is a little smaller, we really liked it but there were some features that didn't suit. Also bullet-proof reliability, if past history is anything to go by. All the CR/V owners that I know really really like theirs.

I gotcha on the reliability of the X3, we had to think long and hard on that too. We concluded that, as a model, the X3 in 2007 would have an acceptable reliability given the few years of tweaking that BMWs go through. And the refresh of the interior/exterior in 07 really makes it "BMW" compared to previous years (no offence to pre-07 X3 owners.)

It must suck to drive the "Ultimate Dealer Service Machine".

Hope it works out for the best.

A person who drove BMWs for 20 years would probably die before driving a Highlander. I had one for a loaner once, and the driving dynamics were so horrible it was painful. Plus, the new one looks just like the new LX570. (ugly).
If he wanted to leave BMW, he'd still probably want a luxury brand. I would suggest Acura RDX, maybe Infiniti FX35. I liked the 328xi, but it was low to the ground, it didn't have that suv presence. Maybe a 328i Touring?
Good luck

Mein Auto: '06 X3, 1997 Chevy truck,
My wife wanted a Highlander. She has great qualities as my partner for life, but has no concept of what distinguishes one mechanical thing from any other mechanical thing. Like cars, for example.

She drove an X3 and decided it would be easy to handle in a parking lot and had room for at least a couple of small kids and groceries. She went directly from the BMW dealer to a Toyota dealer and drove a fully optioned Highlander. Her comment comparing the X3 and Highlander went something like this: "I like the X3 because the Highlander reminded me of our Plymouth mini-van."

KJ, how about lemoning it out? If that isn't possible then what about that BMW Trade Assist program I have read about on various boards? If all else fails and you still need to bail, be sure to stop by your local Porsche dealer and try the NEW V6 Cayenne. That new V6 has a significant HP increase and makes what was a slug into a very nice machine with almost decent gas milage, still not as high as the X3 but as good as the X5. Their reliability issues have been mostly resolved although the tire wear is still not good. Of course if you just want performance on a budget then try the RAV4 with the V6. My '06 X3 has been flawless in 17K but I don't have a lot of bells and whistles on it to go wrong. I guess it is all in the luck of the draw.

I've had a 325i, 328i, and 335i sedan, and 328Wagon as loaners during all of this. I feel claustrophobic in the 3series (and in fact, there is an 1 more headroom in the X3). There is also the fact that Chris Bangle threw up the dashboard of the new 3series and i think it's awful. BMW dashes should face the driver, not away from him/her.

Also, the e90s have had their share of problems, and all the loaners i've driven have had more noises and rattles than my X3 does, and they have had LESS mileage.

Sorry to hear that your X3 isnt working out. It appears you may have gotten unlucky and got one of those BMWs that I say "can never be fixed". Try another X3 if you wish, maybe a CPO one that's in good shape and has a clean service record.

As you probably can tell, the '07s have their own share of issues, unless you buy a manual transmission.

Actually, if you want to attempt a trade assist, you don't need to go through all that effort. Contact your service manager and request that the manager prepare a trade assist request. They have access to ALL the service records.

passenger side mirror shorted (07, no problems)
bridgestone turanza POS tires (07, michelins)
sport pakcage w/o body kit (07, standard)
BMW assist w/ no BT (07, standard)
1 year BMW assist (07, 4 years free)
no lojack equivalent (07, comes with BMW assist)
no AUX input (07, standard)
18MPG mixed (07, 21MPG mixed)
30 less HP (07, new engine)
passenger air bag light always on when no passenger seated (07, fixed)
no LED for open doors (07, fixed)
no universal garage door opener, no compass (07, standard)

no power folding side mirrors (07, standard)

THATs the short list for now... and basically the same price car too

my 04 and 07 X3s are exactly the same in options, only difference is the interior trim
