How do you guys keep it together?

So I spent the weekend driving a 2 day old E60 M5 (wife's brother just got one and stupidly tossed me the keys). I've lost my entire perspective. My 525 and Z4 feel pointless. I cant think of anything but driving the M5, I went into a meeting this morning and all I talked about was taking on ramps in the M5. I've spent the last hour on BMW's website configuring an M5 for myself. How do you guys go about your everyday life with this beast? I really dont need an M5 but I cant get the thing off my mind. I feel like Chris Rock in New Jack City except the M5 is my crack.

3.0si is hardly gutless. Not close to an M5, but more oomph than pretty much any non-M BMW other than maybe 335.

I know what you mean man. This car gets in you soul. I've grew up around cars and auto racing my whole life, so I was never really impressed by fast cars and I never found my self obsessing about them. When I got into this thing, I suddenly changed into a closet speed junkie and spend all my time on BMW boards when I'm not driving the car! I love this thing and will be very sad when i finally have to sell it in a few years.

I'm going to drive this thing as much as I can to see if I can get this stupid grin off my face. I need to talk myself down by finding a fault with the car. Will the door seals start creaking after a couple of years?

May be after getting a speeding ticket you will find a fault.

Seriously speaking, owning M5 on daily basis is more of a torture than happy. It's a fun car, but in daily driving M5 is a little point less to me. There isn't any place during my daily commute that I can enjoy the car. You know the full potential of the M, but you can't use it. Hence its more of a torture than pleasure.

I know exactly what you mean. Wife has an E350 and it feels like mush when I drive it and so does every other car I drive. To me, it's get me out of here and let me have my M5 back. I test drove an ML63 yesterday. It just felt ok in comparison to the M5. The handling and feel of the M5 is simply unmatched by 99.9% of automobiles out there. My only small gripe about the M5 is the low end torque.

Gas guzzler, insurance, depreciation.......did that help a little bit??? Maybe a just a smirk now instead of a full-fledged grin?

Economics alone wont turn me off, I'm having a good year and a few extra bucks wont keep me from doing something irrational. I need to find some isssues with the car. I plan to drive it over more over the next couple of weeks. Maybe I'll find something that bothers me.

You may want to watch the gas mileage, I hear it's bad. But then again anyone who gets an M5 doesn't think it's an economy car. If you found a gently used one, the gas guzzler tax has already been paid. What did you think of the SMG, some people bash it.

Clearly you haven't had the chance of driving the RS4, the RS6, or the 63 series AMGs, or many others..............

I've gotten the trick of driving smoothly with the paddles. I'm still a die-hard stick guy and would probably still get the manual if buying. Reason is because I still prefer a simpler (read: more reliable or cheaper to fix) car so I long as I dont have to compromise on other attributes (like a v10 )

Look for a newer used one. My pop works at a Cadillac dealer and some knucklehead traded in a new M6 that had 500 miles on it. He even paid a premium over sticker. It sold in the 80s.

There are all kinds of people who have "too much money" and blow through cars like they're nothing.

I was looking at the 2006 M5 that are selling with less than 15k miles for around $65k. That's already 25k under MSRP.

Sorry this is OT, but I can't help wondering which Cadillac that he traded his M6 for?

I'm cooling off on the SMG. Love the rest of the car, though. I'd get the manual, if only because I think it's actually easier to drive than an SMG when coming from another manual car.

But on a sour note, check out how Shelley BMW totally F'd by brother in law:
