325iT new member

Hello to all,
I am new to this form.
I am in the market for a 325iT wagon. I found one, had it checked @ cerified BMW mechanic. Everthing seems to check out except for : sporadic misfire fault codes stored 238(cylinder1) and 242(cyl 5). Can I have some advise as to what this is. Is it a big deal and or a simple repair? Should I be cautious of the purchase? I would appreciate some advise. Thank you Kira

No big deal, what year is that wagon... It should be a recall actually, do a search on Ignition Coils for the E46...

There was a recall for failing coil packs. A dealer can tell you if this recall fix has been performed. The following build date & vin ranges were affected by this recall:
E46 with M54/M56 from 09/02 up to 12/04 production date.

The information provided by MG67 is the type of information that a certified BMW service person might be expected to know about. Just like any other profession, there are people who barely get their degree and stop learning, and those who excel and stay on top of new information. Maybe he or she was having a bad day, maybe not. The important thing is that as much as you beginning a new relationship with a new brand, you are also beginning a relationship with a BMW service provider. These pages are full of stories about great technicians and poor ones. BMW's are great (much better than a ....whatever), but they do require informed service, true technicians, not "grease heads". Do yourself a favor and factor this into your buying decision.

And.....

WELCOME!

1. I'm not a grease head
2. I just copied some vin codes for reference on replacing the coils in the car, my reason for asking the year of the car, the listing above gives you the vin codes that might need a coil replacement. If that Touring is affected he or she can ask the service advisor if the coil replacement has been done...nothing more nothing less... that's what I did and that's 3 years ago...

1. While my post referenced you it wasn't about you.
2. I apologize anyway.
3. BMW clients should not have to go to the service advisor with more information than the service advisor knows. We may all do it to overcome poor service, but it doesn't make it right. This is not aimed at you but at the topic. Its a good thing that you were able to provide such great information. Again...It is a good thing that you did, and no reasonable person can have any criticisms of it

No issue, I thought you were mad at me because of me providing some info...
