HELP- cd changer installation

I have installed a cd changer in my 95 325 I Convertible. The car came prewired for installation in trunk. I have a 14 pin round cable and a 3 pin rectangle cable. Hooked those up and the magazine then would eject. I installed a cd into the magazine and put in the player it worked its way through the magazine of cds and when I went to change the band from fm to cd it didn't show cd just fm and am. I am not sure what to check now. Am I missing a wire? What should I check?

Thanks so much for any help offered!!!!!!!!!

Your not missing a wire at all. the CD player will eject and cycle any time power is present, I.E. you don't have to have the 14 pin wire connected for it to do that. Based on that, and assuming that you are not getting "disk check" or "disc error" messages on your head unit, then there is no communication between the head unit and the CD changer.

Things to check:
1: Are you sure the 14 pin (bus) wire is fully connected and screwed together tightly? It does go on pretty far.
2: Is the bus wire connected at the head unit side? (I've heard stories of them coming undone)
3: Do you have the correct CD changer for your head unit? I believe there were 2 different manufacturers of stereo parts for our cars. Alpine and Pioneer? Both had different CD changers that they controlled.

Don't quote me but I am pretty sure your cd changer should say tr1003 somewhere on the backside... But I am not sure when they changed to the "other style"

I double checked the bus wire and it it connected good. I pulled the radio and the bus wire is connected to the radio. I have put a message in to the BMW dealer in my state to verify my part number on the cd changer. It is one of the part numbers in my owners manual. The manual says it has the unique feature of being able to control either of two different models cd changers. 82111468014 - I have this one. It is a pioneer cdx-m30
the other option is 82111467024. I will have to check on the tr1003

thanks

If I found the correct information the TR1003 replaced the 82111468014. I guess I am down to seeing if the bus wire is bad and go from there.

Thanks your the help with the checking of the system.

I know it sounds silly, but try moving the bus wire around a bit in the trunk. Mine wouldn't work for the longest time until I moved the wires a bit and got the "check disc" code on the radio. A little more wiggling and it works fine now.

Wrong CD player. My books says it will work either or but it actally won't . It is an Alpine stereo and I can buy from BMW or I can find an alpine. Well, I have found the TR1003, which is what you said I should have. Too bad I didn't ask before I bought the first one! Oh well, I think I can get my money back from it.
I do have another question, do you know what magazine would go in the TR1003?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hmm, I'm not 100% sure what the part # is for the magazine. I know they are all over ebay for around $15-20. I can check on mine when I get home to give you a definitive answer for a part #.

I just replaced my factory radio on my pickup truck with a Pioneer IB4900 (or something like that) and it only cost $179 and included both an aux input and an IPod input which also charges the IPOD. My 325i is next to get the same treatment. They ran the IPod wire into the glove box so you just plug your IPod (with WAY more than 6CD's on it) in and then the usual IPod menu's appear on the face of the radio when selected. You actually control your IPod with the stereo face on your dashboard. I chose to use the AUX input for a mobile XM receiver but if your existing radio has an AUX but no dedicated IPOD input, you can run your IPod or other MP3 player through that and use an ITrip charger to keep it powered. Not as elegant looking, but it works fine. I'm not any help if you are set on using the changer, but this other option allows a lot more flexibility and lets you keep all your CD's safely at home. Of course, if you don't have an MP3 player or an IPod. Another benefit of replacing your old radio with a modern one is that they come with more power (50W max, 22W rms) and this dramatically clears up the muddy bass sound. Good luck!
