Post Fwd: Re: Mystic Blue and Silver Gray

To: All BMW Sales Managers
Re: Mystic Blue and Silver Gray

We know many of you are having difficulty ordering cars for March production with the new colors Mystic Blue and Silver Gray. New color samples will be available at the end of this month and will be sent to you in early March. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

In the meantime, we would like to try and describe the new colors.

Mystic Blue - Replaces Topaz Blue
It is very close to Topaz, a shade or two darker but not as dark as Orient Blue. It is also very similar to the LeMans Blue of the M5, but there is not as much purple tone to it.

Silver Gray - Replaces Steel Gray
Can best be described as very similar to the Sterling gray of the Z4, a little lighter.

We hope this helps and again appologize for the inconvenience.

Why the difficulty in ordering the colors? Or do they mean difficulty in selling the colors since no one can see what they look like?

(I didn't have any problem ordering Mystic Blue last month when I placed my order. Of course, I searched multiple BMW websites to find the facelift pictures in Mystic).

I am glad to see they've replaced the great topaz blue with such an admirable counterpart. Very nice, wish I could have ordered it 2 years ago!

How ham-handed

I cannot believe that BMW would introduce new colors yet not have samples available for dealers. How complicated is this? They already have the paint supplies; surely they can start spraying them on the little chips they send to dealers.

I can certainly see why customers would be a bit annoyed by trying to order cars in a color that they are told only "compare to" previous colors.

Completely incompetent in my mind. Even more so than the absence of the aux-in adapter for the new stereos.

Mystic looks very, very close to Topaz. Looks like it is just a few shades off depending on the lighting.

Silver Grey looks like the old Aspen Silver in a certain wierd way.... its between Titanium Silver and Steel Grey. I think it'll be nice and a good alternative to me the "Me-Too" Titanium Silver.

yup--I think Mystic and Silver Gray are now the two best standard colors offered by BMW.

I've seen Mystic Blue at NAIAS, and I like it a lot. It is a lot like topaz, but it doesn't have that weird kind of flat feel that topaz can have in certain lights.

Jon Shafer-

Any chance you can get some pics of silver grey and steel grey paint chips right next to each other?

Thanks atyclb - great link

atyclb,
Thanks so much for the link to those pics, they were really helpful to me, as I was trying to decide between mystic blue and silver grey. Seeing the comparisons to known colors in multiple settings gave me the confidence to order my mystic blue 330i ZHP without ever actually seeing the color in person(or loosing my very early allocation). That link was huge.
