Thinking about creating....
A bmw forum for australian e36 users. Just wondering who would be in.
Just want to get an idea before i create it Im in no way trying to steal users from bf, how ever there is no real bmw community here in australia and there is no product/advertisement of parts here in australia. Trying to make it like an australian bimmerfest

Not sure if you have seen the BMW section on the European Car Club of Australia (ECCA) site. Check out ECCA - its a really good site. Quite a few people from there also post on Bimmerforums - which has a huge mostly US membership.
http://forums.eurocca.net/forumdisplay.php?f=7 The there is also the Australian section on DTM. Used to be a busy site but not so much any more. http://www.dtmpower.net/forum/australia/ |

What's wrong with the Australian section of this forum???
Doesn't matter where you start doing it, there will always be people from overseas joining up. It IS on the internet afterall.....

ohh i dont mind at all m3wannabe. You guys are all welcome.
As for the australian side ive tried repeatably to get australian members to post and nothing. The reason why i want to start an "australian"based forum is that ive noticed alot of bmw's around and alot of young drivers in bmw's but no real "club" or "forum" to socialise and express their intrest. Also things like Items, parts ect ect. Ive also noticed that 95% of the parts are found oversea's. Maybe with time australian shops will be able to sponser the site and advertise and stuff. Cruises and club meets are also on my mind. Get me? |

Dom, if you're interested in local BMW clubs, we have one right here in Melbourne.
http://bmwccv.bmwclubs.asn.au/ From the look of their home page they even give Winton a go. That looks like what used to be "turn 9", my old favourite from when I used to be a flaggy. Ah, them were the days... [nostalgic moment] And yeah, bummer about parts, like you say. Wreckers are so few and far between. |

You'll probably find that alot of BMW drivers are nothing more than just that - BMW drivers. I think forum-friendly BMW owners in Australia are few and far between. BMWs are still more of a snobby car than a geeky car.... if you know what I mean. Its more of a status symbol than an enthusiast scene to most owners.
And the fact that there is so few BMW parts suppliers and aftermarket specialists in Oz would be a reason why the internet users look towards the US and Europe for advice and upgrades. I almost never expect to get an answer from an Aussie when I put a question up in the 3-series section, cos I know the rest of the world has much more experience in all of this. It *could* work if you persist with it over time. As the members arrive and the knowledge-base increases, the forum will keep drawing more people in. But its damn hard to get the snow ball rolling. I just think that we could all use the Australian section of this forum a bit better to exploit the publicity it already holds. Maybe put a link to the Aussie section in signatures or something aswell....

Make it Australasian
Hey Dom.
Make it an Australasian forum and we'll talk, I know there are a couple of kiwis on here and I'd be keen, its a lot more practical to get parts from Australia than from the States or Europe.

But over here it's just a different world, bmw aren't volume seller, there viewed as snobs car, there's not much really for them after market. I'd join up,but since i dont own said car not much point.
