I'm trying to identify this part...

It's not the window fountain.... yesterday as I was spraying the carb cleaner around that area to find a leak... my low idle inclease 300 to 600 RPM and air thumping sound went a way
If there's leak there is this something I can repair my self or is this thing needs to be replace... it seems this thing is on top of the ICV...

justtune,

I thought you already posted the ICV DIY and should have an idea about that part.
Here was the thread you posted recently:

You guys gotta go easy on me... I know I can write up a decent DIY, but trying to identify parts from no experience its very difficult. For one thing my "learning BMW parts" english is getting better. (This is not bad for a guy who's been in US for 12 yrs)
Anyway... I'm still learning... So far the BMW vocab I learn so far... brake, MAF, ICV, O2, spark plugs, air filter, oil filter, exaust maf... and my e39 not bad for guy with medical background

Back to the question

this one is under the intake maf. and back of the ICV. ( getting to ICV is very easy... but this one is going to be a challenge ) I have no idea what the name is....

THAT IS NOT THE ICV! Its the CCV. crank case ventilation. stick ur finger underneath the vent on it while the engine is running. if it smooths out, replace it. the icv is on the outside of the manifold.

it is possible to replace this without taking the intake manifold off... its more difficult but it can be done.

Okay, so by by covering CCV vent, the engine does sound better and the vibration is gone...
Your saying that CCV is the root cause all this problem...

Question I have... can I just cover that vent with (tape or something) so car doesn't vibrate?
By covering the CCV vent, will this cause driving performance or any problem?

i have a suspicion about my CCV is going bad, but when i do plastic bag trick its vacuumed.
if you sure your CCV is bad and you say plastic bag vacuumed too i am gonna change CCV.

if i were you i wouldnt drive more like that.

CCV designed to remove bad smokes from crankcase, if its clogged it can be harmful.

Thank You.

- -Well, I'm changing it this weekend. Getting the part today for $53 + tax. Going to remove the intake manifold because I bought gaskets thinking that was my problem. I"m going to go ahead and install them aslo. I was looking for the CCV on realoem.com and couldn't find it, does anyone have a link or part number I can plug in?- -

Any chance of take pics of the process? When warm weather returns here (3 months) I plan on replacing mine.

- -Yes. Pics will be taken. I hate trying to find a problem on the boards and finally finding the solution and then there are no detailed pics. My driver just came back with the CCV and the part number is 11-61-7-501-566 from BMW of Dallas.- -
