Ran out of gas, car wont start now

My son ran my '93 525i out of gas. We put gas in and it ran for 2 or 3 min. We let it sit for a half our and it started up again and ran for 2 or 3 min. Now it wont turn over at all. I replaced the fuel filter and it just cranks but you can tell no gas it getting to the engine. Any ideas what this could be? Maybe fuel pump? Is there a fues I maybe should be looking for that could have blown?

Was the key left in run for a long time with the tank empty?

Crap from the bottom of the tank might have the system blocked.

You could try jumping the relay with a fused jumper wire. It is in the PSGR side electronics box near the computer.

Could also be your fuel pump, over-heated and caused some serious damage!

I just went through a no start nightmare.

Put the key in and listen to see if you hear the fuel pump running.

When the tank is dry and refilled, after the heat damage to the fuel pump ofcourse !
Debris and dirt flots ans sticks to the filter, blocking it!

So, change youre pump and filter and you should be good to go!

I replaced both the Fuel Pump and filter and still nothing. It doesn't sound like anything is getting to the engine but the fuel line is charged. Any other ideas???

I agree, has to blocked injectors if pump and filter have been changed.

Got it running!

charged the battery good and gave it another try. It took a min. to crank it over, but it started up and is running great! Now my only problem is getting the radio to work again. How do I find the serial number of the radio so that I can get an unlock code?

thanks for all of the great suggestions. Your advise saved me loads of $$ and allowed me to fix the car on my own!

There should be a card in the service books with the code on it. I lost mine in my e36 but it was on a sticker on top of the unit itself, my e34 doesnt have a sticker on though.

If you cant find the code you will have to go to the dealer. They will often look it up for free. If you cant take it out yourself to get the S/N they will probably charge you.
