getting 12.8-13mpg..need help..

...this happens no matter how I drive....grandpa/grandma mode, aggressive or in between...i see that some of you get as much as 18-20...i used to be at around 14mpg now it stinks so bad it bothers me....if anyone had same issue please let me know what you were told...perhaps one of your dealers has some suggestions as 2 dealers around here told me that all is withing tolerance and there is nothing unusual with test data......

air filter was changed, i'm on 24.2 idrive version, tires properly inflated....I do not abuse or race the car...combo of city and highway...no major stop and go at all....

How are you measuring your mpg?
If you're using the onboard computer are you resetting it every time you fill up the tank?

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I only get about 15mpg on my 650 vert with mostly city driving. The only time I've topped 20 mpg is on highway trips. I don't think I've ever seen more than 21 mpg. on the onboard computer (yes, I reset it each time I fill up). My top has been down most of the time, so I imagine this is also a contributor to the relatively poor mpg.

15.8 mpg here, lots of stop & go traffic in the Seattle area.

On a highway trip to California, I got 25.7 which is pretty stellar, especially considering we were blowing through the mountain passes at 80 mph, and temperatures in northern California were in the 90s.

i would suggest you take a 200 to 300 mi one way free way trip. if your not getting over 24mpg there's wrong. my 545 got 26.5 between pittsburg and seattle. my 2006 650 got 28 between boise and seattle [800 mi+-] my 2007 get 24.5 plus on 200 mi trips. city driving is too variable. i live in seattle as well and drive 20 mils to work on free ways not hard stop and go. i get over 20. when a drove 6 miles of back roads i got 16. the autos dont shift correctly for good milage in city driving. the 545 manual would get over 20 on the same 6 mile work trip. the auto stay in 4 or 5 too much of the time.

My 645 gets nowhere near...

th mileage my 05 545 did. It doesn't run as well either. It doesn't have the free revving smooth power that my 5 did. I haven't checked, but am assuming that the 6 has got to weigh more than the 5. Wonder if there is a tranny or software issue to the engine management system? My 545 and my 645 were built within a month of each other. In town, I get about 15. Best I have gotten on the road is about 22.

I haven't reset mine in a few weeks and my average is 20.2 mpg. I do around 70% freeway and 30% stop and go/city driving so I'm pleased.

While driving to Bimmerfest I got over 24 mpg and that was averaging around 85 mph. Oops, was I supposed to say that

The only time my average is that low or lower is when I reset it after fueling up and get on it pretty hard. Try not resetting it for a while and things should average out.

Good luck.

As another point of reference, I am averaging 20.6MPG driving in Chicago traffic, it's 80% highway but I am on the Kennedy during the evening rush hour and am usually stop and go until I get past the airport. That has also been pretty consistent. My E39 M5 used to average 19.8 doing the same drive. That's all measured with the OBC and verified manually, the OBC seems to be pretty accurate IMO.

Tossing in another data point, I'm averaging long term 18.6 mpg which is 75% city street driving for commuting, with a fairly heavy right foot. On the freeway for longer trips I get around 24 at 75-80 MPH.

On a recent trip from Denver to Park City, Utah I averaged 26.2mpg. Typically I get around 21.7mpg with 80% freeway driving. What I find interesting with slightly more aggressive driving the on board computer shows improved mileage performance. I can only assume the computer does not actually measure consumption but averages out speed and then translates that to a MPG number. So the longer you operate at the higher and more efficient speed the better the MPG number.

well, I'm planning a trip from Chicago to Detroit on Friday. Will fill up and then do a manual calculation as well as reset trip/mpg meter...let's see what it does but I sure feel that something has to be wrong...My cayenne had better mileage than the 6....

My average is 14.8 mpg. I drive 95% in the stop-and-go suburbs of Seattle. Usually I keep the joy button engaged (i.e., Sport button) and I have a manual tranny. You could say I drive, uh, "somewhat aggressively".

Over the past year I've seen my average mileage increase from 13.5 to 14.8 without any change in my driving habits.
