Of course you are nervous -- excitement is a good thing!

As for Hawaii, it can depend upon where you are going and what you plan to do. Which island(s)?

Good luck with your wedding. I'm going to celebrate my 21st wedding anniversary next month, and I can tell you that for me it just keeps getting better.

As for Hawaii, Be careful in the ocean. People will not tell you, but Hawaii is one of the most dangerous "lets go for a swim" beaches in the world. I'm not talking about any sea life, thats not the the problem. The ocean has a serious undertow which has claimed many victims. Look at it this way, The Hawaiian islands are littles rocks in the middle of the Pacific. Hawaii ia actually the most remote (furthest from any land) island chain in the world. As a consequence, the ocean acts differently there than anywhere else. Keep this in mind and you should have a great time. Hawaii is fantastic.

Are you nervous about the bride or nervous about the details of the ceremony and stuff?

Which island are you going to? I know Lanai pretty well, but not the others so much.

1) Leave early for the airport
2) Bring something to read during your layover in Honolulu (unless you have a direct flight to your final destination)
3) Eat Big Island beef!!!
4) Don't overplan, don't try to do everything, don't forget to have fun!

What to bring to Hawaii....shorts, shorts and one pair of pants if you want a nice dinner. The post about the ocean was very true, some beaches not all have strong currents.

As you may know from living in Florida, stay out of the sun between 11-2, you can get a nice tan at 3 pm.

If you tell us where you are going, we can give you better suggestions.

Spend lots of money when you are here.

We are going to Kauai. Staying at some Marriott resort and beach club thing. Flying directly to the island. Renting a convertable. The usual tourist crap.

I have to give my groomsmen something. I got the usual flask with a cigar in it. I can't really think of anything to give. Girls are better at this stuff than guys are.

Ok, so shorts, shorts, and one pair of slacks. Got it.

Sunscreen... got it.

Where do I get big island beef from?

Staying in Airport at Hyatt hotel. Should be able to go down elevator and into security at 6 am. Renting Caddy DTS to avoid having to get ride to airport. Just return car there.

Congratulations. I wish you the best. After 24 years of marriage I am still sometimes confounded by my wife's moods.

Assuming an honest and mutually respectful relationship, the one piece of advice I must give you is to listen to her when she wants to talk. Like the EF Hutton commercials of old, when she talks, you listen. Listening will score more points than anything else, especially if you turn off the TV when she starts talking and focus on her. Don't try to provide an instant solution as generally she doesn't really want that. She wants to talk, and most times will talk her way through her issue. If she wants a solution, she'll ask for one.

Again, I wish you two all the joy in the world. Just remember, nothing worthwhile comes easy.

-Any higher-end restaurant will mention if their beef (most often fillet mignon) comes from the big island. Or you might do better asking a consierge or a local where the best steaks are.

Did the same thing on my wedding day, but filled them with my favorite Irish Whiskey instead. Nerves are normal. It's a big step in anyones life, but if it's the right thing to do the nerves will go away once you've said those magic words. Just try to enjoy the day as much as possible. What happens will happen. Go with the flow and you'll have a great time.

As for groomsmen gifts here are a couple ideas. The flask/cigar thing, while nice is a bit overplayed. I don't know about you, but if you've ever been a groomsmen for more than one wedding you'll start to amass a collection of these.

For alternative gifts, I've heard of buying them shoes. Most guys can always use a decent pair of dress shoes. Basically, you buy them shoes to wear on the wedding day and they get to keep them. Or, you can go a more personal route and get each guy something unique to their personality. Personally, I bought my groomsmen a leathermen all-in-one tools with their names engraved. We tend to go hiking/backpacking quite a bit, so this fit the bill.

I vacationed in Kauai just a couple of months ago. Good choice on the convertible. We got a Cheep and hated that we couldn't lock up our valuables. If you haven't already gotten the "Undiscovered Kauai" book, get it.

Things you must do:
go all the way west to the beach -- the potholed road that goes on forever is worth it
Take a helicopter tour with the doors off
Hike as much as you can
Try to ignore the chickens (good luck)
boat tour to na pali coast
the north shore beaches may be fine this late in the year, but south shore is safer. We found a boat ramp that lead to the best snorkeling with sea turtles

PM me for more...

oh, and bring tennis shoes you won't mind throwing away. Red dirt and lots of it!

For groomsmen gifts, last time we did Waterford shot glasses.

I just thought of something, what about a pair or Crocs or Aquasocks for exploring tide pools? Lava can be sharp and tennis shoes don't like the wet.

Very good point. Aqua socks will be your friend, as well as scuba gloves even if you are just snorkeling.

Be very careful where you go into the water at Kauai. Just off the point where we stayed, a family of three were swept off a shelf by a rouge wave and the child was pushed back to shore while the parents were lost. Really showed how strong the waves can be. Definitely take the vert out and explore the island. We were fascinated at the little Grand Canyon and spent time going to the various tropical gardens. If you get a cheapo tourist map, you will be stunned to find out how many movies were shot at the island including Jurassic Park and other notables. We trekked down a path to an area where Jurassic park was filmed to a lagoon/waterfall where people either jump down into the water or swing off vines. It was unbelievably lush. Only issue we ran into was the wild boar which crossed the path 7 feet in front of me. Had to be 400 lbs of black hairy pork.

Nothing seems to cut wet hands or feet as efficiently as coral. I agree on those gloves and aqua socks.

when I worked in a camping supply store several grooms bought Leather man folding tools (knife ,plyiers etc.) the metal allows for ingraving if you wanted. Others gave swissarmy knifes. And hey if your gal digs your ride you are golden !! good luck!!

Leatherman tools dont PSA too well I lost mine in the airport body cavity search.

Gifts are easy, just think of likes.
Don't get clothes, too hard to adjust for sizes.

Upscale sunglasses (Raybans, Maui Jim, Oakley) work well.
Lots of Golf stuff. cpuld pay for a round of Golf at an upscale course
Ipods
Track school/driving school

Also , as a rule of thumb in all gifts:

Women want experiences (dinners, events, memory fullfilling trips, spas)
Men want things. (Tools, Electronics, Hardware,
