E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

yeah, that would suck! Doesn't the Z4 have some type of tubing that flows from the engine compartment to the cabin so the driver can here the engine better?

I'm not sure about that. I once had an X3 as loaner for a day, and I hated making a sharp turn in that thing. It felt like heaven when I got back to my 330, tight and secure. I don't think you can deny physics -- however hard you try -- and everything else being equal, the lighter a car is, the more fun it is.

I guess many people here are simply disappointed that BMW did not even bother to take weight into consideration when they developed this "modern day 2002", unlike for example Audi, who made quite some efforts in making the new TT lighter than before.

if it is lighter than the 335i. it means it will faster than 335i too.

Uh, my 1999 328i E46 with premium package with lightweight race wheels, no junk inside or in the trunk, no driver, 1/4 tank of gas, and no spare weighed 3,196lbs (coincidentally the weight BMW lists in the manual). I've since put a lightweight race battery in that weighs ~40lbs less than the stock one. That's still not close to 2,988. Personally, I'm of the opinion that this imaginary driver weight should not be included as people do not all weigh the same.

You do realize that the quoted figure is for a stripped car with no options, correct? Power seats, folding seats, glass moonroof, et al - all together can add well over 100 lbs to the weight of the the car.

I don't have folding seats in my car, but is your quoted figure an actual weight of a no option E46 330 or just a guess? The weights listed for the '01 330i on Edmunds is 3318lbs, '01 330Ci 3351lbs, '99 328i 3197lbs. I just don't see even a no option 330 being under 3,000lbs.

Oh - I was talking about my 323, not a 330. There's at least a 150 lb difference between the two.

A stripped 330 sans driver will come in at well over 3100 lbs. The figure I quoted already had the driver weight removed - based on 3,285 lbs per the EU spec - but I've seen so many conflicting curb weights listed for the 330 that it's probably even more. Nevertheless, the 135 is weighed to the same EU specification, so it's definitely as heavy as or even heavier than the E46 330.

Oh, I can believe that for a 323. Yeah, I think the 135i will likely be heavier than the E46 330, but then again it has considerably more power too.
