BMW help - losing faith!

I was hoping somebody might be able to help explain to me some solutions to some of the problems that I have with my BMW 316. There seem to be so many I am beginning to lose my faith in restoring the car which is a shame because I feel that they are such nice cars. My first problem (other than the exhaust being completely *#*#*#) is that the engine will completely cut out as soon as I turn the heating temperature nob down to the coldest :S and that powers 1,2 and 3 do not work on the heater, only 4. I would be so grateful if somebody could suggest something that I could try as I know very little about cars and am hoping to have restored before I am seventeen in July ready to drive.

They are nice cars if you own one thats not 30 years old.

Hehe yeah, well, better than nothing, or a three wheeler. Only needs a bit of work and then it should be running like new again, fingers crossed.

Your resistor bank for the blowermotor is pooched or the contacts on this bank is pooched.either ..or.

any one know about the blower only working on 4? i looked at my motor yesterday and cleaned alot of dirt and hair out, WET dirt and hair. then removed resistor and cleaned it up and replaced it....still only works on 4. im replacing the resistor with a new one from the bmw stealership. think that will help? what else could it be?
