Anyone have a picture of tape deck in 745?

Does anyone have a picture of the optional tape deck that is in the '02-'03 745?

Sorry, I just find it incredibly amusing that a tape deck is offered on BMW's most technologically-advanced and gizmo-bestowed vehicle.

Agreed

You and me both! I want a single disc instead, but I have found one that comes with a tape as well as the cd changer with premium sound. I'm just trying to see what it looks like and if it is hideous, that will definitely make up my mind. Anyone know of a link that has pictures of interiors of 745's.

In the 3-series the Cassette and In-dash CD are interchangeable. In the 7-series, I'd expect the Cassette to replace the same space where the CD is located. After reading the 7'er Owners Manual on BMWUSA, I don't think the 3-er cassette would be too radically different since they mention all the controls like the 3-er. Only the radio controls and display would disappear since the focking I-drive controls that.

3-series cassette:

7-series CD:

@Don

Where did you see that the tape deck is an option on the E65 ?

I have the E65 catalog in front of me right now, there's no mention of it

There's an MD player option instead of CD.

The 7-series owners manual on BMWUSA has the cassette info. Has a books-on-tape mode too.

Can't find one... I thought I had it somewhere.

Here's as close as I can get. A pic of MD player (just imagine a thicker opening for cassette player ) and cassette holder (should replace the CD holder in center armrest).

I think the looks of it are nothing to worry about. Just decide whether you would use one at all or not.

Swap tape storage with CD storage in console

Is it possible to replace the optional tape storage located in the center console of the 745LI with the CD storage that normally comes with the car? I assume this can be easily swapped out of the center console judging by the looks of the thing.(See picture in above post) I just don't want tape storage. Anyone know the part number of the CD storage and the price?

You could go bug a parts guy, ask him to look the part on the ETK. That could give you the idea of the price for the new part and also some installation tips.

Don't know if you still need it, but I just saw this on Ebay...

I aggree with you. It just seems out of place in a car so technicaly advanced. I can't believe that BMW still offers a tape player option. Just dosent seem right for a premium brand IMO.

Given all the space they freed up w/ that hideous dashboard, and i-drive- i'm surprised they can't put a mult-disc changer where the single-slot cd (like every other competitor), and ALSO include a tape and maybe even a MD too. Given how "technically advanced" they bill this car to be, it should also handle MP3s.

Um... MB has multi-disk in dash changer? No. I haven't heard of A8 having one either.

I'm not saying that's good, but let's just get the facts straight

true. I went overboard w/ that statement. I think the new A8 will have the multi-disk changer since the A4 and A6 currently offer this feature.

That'd be logical. Hopefully A8 will have DVD nav, too

Actually, 745i is not that bad, it's CD changer is right on the dash too, even though it's still a changer and not a true in-dash slot CD changer.
