Imola Red - do you like yours?

Owners of Imola Red M3s -- how do you like your car? What kind of reception -- if I can call it that -- does it get from other people?

I'm looking for an '05 or '06 M3 and trying to decide on color. I don't like alpine white or jet black. Interlagos Blue looks purple in sunlight, and in California that's 80% of the time. There are way too many silver cars out there, plus Titanium Silver is too light for my liking. Yellow is too much ... of something.

That leaves Jet Black and Imola Red. JB is an easy choice on one hand, but on the other it's yet another black beamer. And the wife likes Imola Red.

Of course a red car is easier for the law to spot. And it's a loud color -- red Ferrari, sure, but an M3? I'm in my mid-30's, happily married, baby on the way. I'm not picking up gals in bars, to paint with a broad brush...

So -- for those driving these cars, how do you like it, color-wise?

Max

Mein Auto: which day is this?
I like my IR on Black. It does get a lot of attention but when the car is shined up, it really looks great. I didn't think that I wanted the IR on IR, but after seeing a couple of them, I have changed my mind and would encourage you to look for that combo, if you can find it. But then, I also like CB on Cinn, AW on Cinn, and IB on Black.

I have a 04 330i ZHP in imola red and i think it's stunning and pretty uinique. Here in the BayArea BMW (even M3s) are all over...moslty are all silve/black so at least red stands out a bit from the crowd....

as far as being easy to spot for the police: i don't think it makes a difference

Go for Imola Red, I think that is a great color! Why not have your car stand out in a stunning color?

Thanks guys.

What do you think about Cinnamon interior. I saw Carbon Black on Cinnamon at a recent car control clinic (8/4, Marina, CA). It looked stunning! I love Cinn interior. My wife's E46 330 ZSP's gray leather is a bit boring, but cinn is nice.

What do you think about Imora Red on Cinnamon? This car http://rocky-mountain-eurosport.ebiz...3-1687384.html

Price-wise, is it too high? I offered the guy 50 and he countered with $52.5 over the phone.

Thx,
Max

I have always thought the cin interior is beautiful. And that is the compeition package which many members will claim is the best BMW built. I have never driven one, but I think it must be pretty damn good to get so many compliments.

Bright red is flashy, Imola Red is more subdued, I think the Imola Red also siginfies a special car, M3, ZHP, etc. If the wife likes it, you better go for it to keepp a happy household. Cinnamon interior or natural leather for the ZHP looks great.

Remember though, any red = ticket magnet.

(I had an IR ZHP and loved it except for the issue above)

We don't have an M3, but my wife has an Imola Red X5 that she LOVES. It is a really sharp color and you definitely don't see it that often (out here at least).

JoS, unless I'm mistaken, this is the same car and it did not sell at 49k. Maybe you should call back with a lower offer?

Mein Auto: m coupe & m3
I have a jet black 2006 M3 conv with cinn interior and have only seen on the road or in adds a total of 4 in this combination since I purchased it a year ago. This seems to be a rare combo in the east. In this color combo it look extremly classy yet dark and evil. I also have a imola red s54 m coupe with two tone red on black int. You can't go wrong with either color. 2 weeks before I bought my m3 there was an imola red m3 with black int and comp pack on the showroom floor that I fell in love with. The next day I came back it was sold. It sold in 36 hours after hitting the floor and as you can see I still think about the car. I don't like the m3's with the imola red interior b/c the whole seat is red as opposed to the two toned seats in my m coupe which really pops out at you. I have had my m3 conv right next to a brand new imola red on Black m3 conv. The red poped more than mine. My advice is go with you gut and your wife. If you want pictures of my color combo let me know. It been slightly modded but looks pretty stock. and no I can't fit all of my kids in the m3conv but if I had a coupe I could what a mistake.

plz, it is the same car. I found it on ebay originally, but he has a reserve. On his own site he's asking just under $55k.

You know -- I thought the E92 335 coupes will make the M3 prices soft. I haven't seen much of that..

Sorry, my bad, I thought the 49k was a buy it now price, not merely the starting bid.

IMHO, IR is the best red on the planet. Had a 330Ci previously in ER, which was very nice, but it was a little had too much orange for my taste. Much prefer the IR of my 05 M3. Did a hand wash this afternoon and caught myself staring at it afterward. IR is just stunning. Haven't experienced the law enforcement magnet effect. I run with tint that is too dark and no front plate and have never been pulled over (knock on wood). Received more attention from law enforcement in my first BMW (steel blue over ivory 323i). I think it has more to do with how you drive it vs the color.

I agree with the above two posts. Driving style will get you pulled over, not car color.

Imola Red is a stunning color. It really stands out among the sea of black, white, and silver cars that you see everyday. If you don't mind a flashy car that stands out and gets noticed, go for it!

Both are factors.

Insurance records and anecdotes from cops show pretty clearly that certain colors get pulled over more often.

One of those colors is red.

Accident rates for silver cars is very high.

The most common color for cars to get tickets is white. Why? Because it is the most common color. Red cars don't get tickets any more than their statistical percentage would indicate.

They just did a show on 20/20 Myths,Lies and Down Right Stupidity and red cars have one of the lowest percentages for being pulled over.

Some times I think you are more likely to get stopped based on the class and condition of your car. For example a car with a cracked windshield in some states won't pass an inspection so the cops stop it b/c it probably hasn't been inspected.Ticket! You know they have to generate enough revenue for there department to look good.

I have a yellow pheonix color and you have no idea how many people tell me nice car every day i go out with the car. They just love the color, it stands out more then any color that is out there. The other color i would choose would be the laguna seca blue. Defentely worth your money. Color is important think about it.
