That's a good point. I am really just trying to be proactive. Hopefully, it is just a shipping mishap but now I can say I did everything I could on my end. In reality, if the car is somewhere in Mexico or in a container going back to China I'd rather not find it and get a new car to repace it just because god knows what happened to it during that time. If it's just sitting in another dealers lot somewhere because of a shipping mishap that's a different story.

Yes, it's totally clear. You don't need to insure it until you pick it up. See my post in this thread:

Craigito, referring to my post above, it looks to me like the Marine Insurance applies in your case. Maybe the dealership has nothing to do with it (though they may be scared ****less and think they do).

Thanks for the info. I still don't know the disposition of the car so we'll have to wait and see. I'm composing my letter to BMWNA as we speak.

Just checked OC on the advice from someone on E90post

I just called the 800 number. Car is listed "in transit", but OC website was "at dealer" for a while now. Hmmmmmm. What could this mean?

Soooo sorry to hear about that! That's one of the worst things I can imagine happening while waiting for a new car! I'm sure everyone here is crossing their fingers for you!

My condolences.

While I usually refrain from making making complaints, I'd certainly express your frustration to BMWNA. If your car does not show up in an acceptable condition, you should push for a prompt replacement.

OC website isn't known for its accuracy, so you can't go by that. Good luck on a speedy resolution to your issue.

I'd swear that when my car hit US soil in '04, I got a letter from BMWNA telling me to add it to my insurance.

I agree...but this wasn't the website. I called the 800 number said it was "in transit".

yeah, i'm beginning to think (hope) the whole thing is just a scare, that's all. That was way too fast for a west coast delivery.

We'll, I would agree, but a couple of folks who were on the boat with me already took deliveries. Plus, the dealership told me the car was confirmed with the trucking company to ship from the VPC???

If I did or didn't have insurance, my point is my insurance should never find out what happened. It's is on BMW to deliver my car and any mishaps during that process should be covered by them, not me. I don't get to choose the delivery method of my vehicle.

And I never received a letter telling me my car had arrived in port. Either way, the marine insurance states the insurances ends when the car is "handed to the customer". We'll that obviously didn't happen. As far as I know, the car could still be at the VPC since nobody at the dealership can say for sure my car was ever at the dealership. I'm just in llimbo until the car turns up.

I am REALLY sorry to read this story! I would contact Waggoneer's Trucking and I'd call the VPC directly. For me I would not trust the dealership to do the leg work.

I will be keeping good thoughts for you and I hope this gets resolved quickly! Best of luck!

Anyone know if Waggoner's Trucking is the only trucking company used by the Oxnard VPC? When I called them to see if they had my car they were most helpful in checking although at the time they did not. Anyone recall their phone number, I may call again in the event my car was still in customs before rather than assigned to another trucking company.

too bad. Maybe BMWNA will feel bad and perhaps help you out in getting an M3?

Exactly... the Allianz insurance covers until redelivery. Why ever notify your own insurance and have your rates go up? I never understood why people ask "when do I add my ED car to my US policy?" and the answer sometimes is " as soon as it hits the port". Because I read the details that Allianz covers till redelivery, I didn't add my car to my policy until the day I picked up at the dealer. To each his own I guess!

Thanks. Just called them and learned my vehicle was released from VPC to them on Friday and should be on a truck heading north today. Since the ED car was offloaded from the Centaurus Leader on August 19th that would suggest it took 5 weekdays to get through customs and VPC.

Exactly what I was thinking. Car was not delivered... You are still waiting for delivery. This one is on BMW, for sure. I wouldn't worry about it. Just ask for a loaner while they get you a new car.

Except that it was delivered. In Munich. That is when it became his. Will he be on the hook for a replacement if that became necessary? No. But it was delivered to him.

Hey Guy ..

I read your posts and my heart goes out to you man. My 2 month wait was bad enough MUCH LESS a problem like this. I did have my Infiniti J30 stolen from the dealership about 10 years ago .. and I was NOT happy, the car was found 8 hours later abandoned, and they detailed it and cleaned it up .. and I couldn't tell. I had people telling me they would tell Infiniti to get me a NEW CAR, but I just took it back, as I needed it to drive. I should have been more demanding but, I did get the car back and it has been the MOST RELIABLE car I have ever owned. I have had it 13 years now and still runs like new. That is ONE WELL BUILT car, I don't care what someone will say about Japanese cars. It's got 270,000 miles and still drives AWESOME ..

Anyway .. I SURE HOPE YOU GET SOME good news today, but if it was stolen, make DARN sure you get it checked out perfectly as the person who stole it could do damage: Sugar in gas tank or other foreign product .. stolen parts etc ..

I can't wait to hear how this ends up .. ??

Again .. I feel SO BAD for you, I'd be going NUTS ..
