Softroading in Mrs. W's X3 This Weekend
Drove Mrs. W's X3 (07 3.0si) camping this weekend, boy it was nice.
This was the first time I had driven it extensively softroading and I was really impressed. We had a lot of rain this past two days in Orlando, so Friday night was pretty wet driving up to the campground. After we checked in at the ranger station, we went about 2 miles on road then about 3 miles to the camp (a so-called "Primitive" Youth camp where we pitched our tents. The road in was pretty sandy and rutted, but with the X-drive I never felt out of control or slippery. Saturday morning was clear, after ferrying the boys up to the canoe put-in a couple times, we drove back down the trail for dinner. Unfortunately, it started to bucket down (I mean, hard) and our camp-out was called due to the torrential rain fall (which is why I am home early. ). When we left, man, I was glad to be in the X3. We threw our gear in the back in a hurry and headed out in the dark along the now deeply water-soaked trail. I am pretty sure it was up to the axles in a couple places, and what were deep ruts were just standing water as it pelted down. The X3 just kept pulling along - I was very very glad to be in it tonight; there is no way my car would have made it out of that trail with the low profile tires I am sure. Glad she let me have it tonight. I felt very safe and secure in this truck. Unfortunately for me, first thing Sunday we have to wash and clean it inside and out - its a little dirty at the moment.

Sorry your camping trip was cut short. At least you got to check out the X3 in some less than desireable situations. Glad it did well and brought you home safe!
Give it a nice bath, it deserves it!

I did the same not too long ago: http://www.x3world.com/x3-e83-forum/...ad-answer.html
Actually, there was so much dirt kicked up somehow that there's still reddish dust engrained under the wheelwells. Tried a powerwasher under there, but it still sticks. |
